We've had multiple reports of oil pollution in the River Calder between Fall Ings Lock and Oakenshaw Beck since Sunday 20th October. Hydrocarbons appear to be leaching from a bunded storage tank, through the ground and out of the riverbank.
This incident has been picked up by national news. Unfortunately, the iron oxide persists in the river.
We are yet to determine the short and long term effects of this incident.

Real opportunity for this analysis to happen in near real-time with the live CSO data many of the water companies now provide.
@JonahFisherBBC please give @theriverstrust a shout—I’m sure we’d be interested in collaborating.
This is a really important analysis by BBC, first of its kind and scale.
Methodology looks appropriate. Would be good for those stating it is flawed to contribute to the next iteration on the 2023 data.

This weekend, we thanked our River Health Project monitors for their efforts this #Riverfly season! Our guest speaker, @josie_south, spoke to the group about her work on Crayfish in the Calder Catchment and how we can protect our native populations of White-Clawed Crayfish (1/3)
