After moving some things around digitally, I probably ought to put up some content.
Have a goodly amount of time on my hands – sitting here at Duke with the oldest, as she’s still doing chemo. Not where I imagined any of the things in life would be right now, but here we are.
The team deserves someone
who wants to manage people.
who is not bitter about meetings
who is interested in sociotechnical systems and nurturing careers
whose technical skills are strong enough to evaluate their work.

@jonnymoo @hrisKoleva@allenholub I try to help provide alignment toward vision and outcomes, and then encourage and support self-organization.
Externally imposed organization and structure are signals of low-trust and low-autonomy, in my experience.
@hrisKoleva @jonnymoo @allenholub In other words, what happened in the past that created the perceived need for structure and constraints?
How might we create alignment around desired outcomes, and allow teams to adapt ways of working for them that avoid undesired outcomes?
@hrisKoleva @jonnymoo @allenholub Structure doesn’t spontaneously emerge or evolve, it’s a reaction to something. Typically, I’ve found that it’s an attempt to use guardrails and rules and oversight to enforce or prevent specific behaviors.
How might we maintain alignment and autonomy, over constraints?
@jonnymoo @allenholub 2/2 So what does it take to keep them self-organised at the first place and not let them slip into structure (structure is of course not necessarily bad, just using it as narrative within the context here)
The world is a tangle of challenges. What do we do?
There are no easy answers. Instead, there are tools.
