“It is better to keep silence and to be, than to talk and not to be.”
— St Ignatius of Antioch
God,
I talk a lot.
About what I believe, what matters, how things should be.
Help me spend less energy saying it
and more living it.
At home, at work, with the people who test my patience.
When I’m tempted to explain myself, let me just show up.
Let the way I treat people do the talking.
Amen.
Pope Leo XIV needs no further treatment after surgery to remove a localised lung cancer, his doctors have confirmed.
We thank everyone who has joined us in praying for his recovery. As he gradually resumes his duties, we continue to keep him, and all those facing cancer, in our prayers.
Our thanks to @CSJCdn and everyone at St Joe’s Café for the care and welcome you offer every day. Thank you, Tasha, for reminding us to see the person beyond the label. Keep up the wonderful work!
“They’re just addicts. Why are you doing this for them? But it could be me.” Tasha from St Joes Cafe in London Ontario, a mission of the Sisters of St Joseph, tells the story of a truck driver who hit a child, how he ended up on fentanyl, and how close any of us are to the same thing. One accident can change a life. Hear the full story in Outside People, an episode of Common Home TV’s Questions for the Modern World: https://t.co/gF0PtQkoLr
Today, we’re praying for @Pontifex and everyone living with lung and respiratory illnesses.
Saint Bernardine of Siena, pray for them and for those caring for them.
God of life,
each breath reminds us how precious
and fragile our lives can be.
We pray for Pope Leo as he recovers.
Give him strength for the days ahead,
rest when he is tired,
and patience with the pace of healing.
Guide those caring for him
with skill, wisdom and kindness.
Be close to everyone struggling to breathe,
waiting for results,
or learning to live with illness.
When fear makes tomorrow feel overwhelming,
help them find comfort in today
and people who will walk beside them.
May we offer one another
the care we hope to receive.
Amen.

Today, 18 October, Catholics celebrate World Mission Sunday and its 100th anniversary, marking a century of prayer, generosity and shared mission since Pope Pius XI established it in 1926.
@Pontifex s message centres on the theme ‘One in Christ, united in mission’. Catholic Mission, the Pope’s international mission agency in Australia, invites us to reflect on his message and join with open hearts in prayer and support for communities around the world.

May the Lord support us all the day long. Till the shades lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in his mercy may he give us a safe lodging, and holy rest, and peace at the last. Amen.
- Saint John Henry Newman
Loving God, We pray for @Pontifex as he prepares for surgery. Give him peace in the waiting, strength for the days ahead, and comfort in the care of those around him.
We remember everyone awaiting an operation or test result, and those whose illness is known only to a few.
Be close to them in their uncertainty, and to the people who love them.
Help us make time for someone who is unwell:
to listen, to visit, or simply to let them know they are remembered.
Amen.
