Imagine needing Germany and France to pump billions into fixing basic services in South African cities because we failed to maintain them ourselves. The funding is welcome, but the embarrassment should not be ignored. Infrastructure doesn’t collapse overnight. It collapses after years of poor governance, weak maintenance and zero accountability.

I really think SA clubs need to get better at preparing our talent for the European market. Not because we should become some feeder league, but because selling just one or two properly developed players per club could bring in serious money. That money can go straight back into academies, scouting, facilities and finding the next batch of talent here at home. That cycle could strengthen our league instead of weakening it.

If Chelsea are choosing not to select him, that’s completely different from him refusing to make himself available.

Wanting to leave doesn’t suddenly cancel your contractual obligations. The club choosing not to select you is one thing; a fit player refusing to play is another. Contracts work both ways: the club pays, and the player is expected to train and make himself available. ‘He wants out’ isn’t a free pass.
