@IGADsecretariat
Transport corridors are more than pathways of trade; they are lifelines of health, dignity, and resilience for the communities that keep our region moving.
Today, representing H.E. @DrWorkneh, I had the honour of joining CS @HonAdenDuale & PS @psmuthoni at the 2nd Regional Conference on Transport Corridors and Health, hosted at @KEMRI_Kenya, Nairobi.
From strengthening cross-border disease surveillance to improving access to health services for mobile and migrant communities, @IGADsecretariat remains firmly committed to promoting safer, healthier, and more resilient transport corridors.
Our appreciation to @KEMRI_Kenya, @MOH_Kenya, @NorthStarAfrica, @NorthernCoridor and partners who continue to transform these corridors into spaces of protection, surveillance, and human development.
Together, we are shaping healthier mobility and building a more secure future for our region.
Last evening, as we gathered for the #IGADMediaAwards2025, we honour the voices that illuminate our region and the journalists who continue to shape the story of an ever-evolving IGAD community.
It was my pleasure to join H.E. @DrWorkneh and my colleagues at the 3rd IGAD Media Awards in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia .
A night dedicated to courage, creativity and excellence in storytelling.
Congratulations to all the winners!
Your work continues to inspire and uplift our region.
"In a region where 26.3 million people live away from their homes not by choice but by circumstance, we can no longer treat mobility as an exception – it is our reality, woven into our history, economies and geography" ~ H.E. @DrWorkneh, IGAD's Executive Secretary
I joined H.E. Dr. Workneh at the Ministerial Stock take of the IGAD Support Platform, where ministers renewed their pledge to protect refugees and host communities, scale up inclusion in essential services like education and health, and strengthen climate and early warning action.
They also called for greater international support, meaningful participation of refugees in decisions that affect them, and urgent steps toward peace and humanitarian access in Sudan.
Greetings my fellow Youth and Young People across and within the region.
The office of the IGAD Youth Envoy participated in the special Envoy’s retreat organized by FBA; the retreat focused on the special roles of the Envoys' offices in a changing dynamic of the Horn of Africa region.
During the retreat, the office identified four key interventions and for support in the upcoming engagements with FBA, and this includes:
Facilitate the Capacity Building workshop for the members of the IGAD Youth Peace Forum, 2025 – 2027 to ensure that they can perform their mandate effectively within the IGAD Member States.
Facilitate the process of the development of the IGAD Youth Engagement Strategy as well as the development of the Action Plan for the IGAD Youth Policy, 2023.
Facilitate Youth engagement between Sudanese Youth and the office of the IGAD Youth Envoy and the office of the Special Envoy on Sudan.
Facilitate a physical engagement of the office of the IGAD Youth Envoy with the Sudanese Youth in Sudan.
All this is expected to be implemented next year with support from FBA.
The office of the IGAD Youth Envoy would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the Peace and Security Division for this wonderful initiative, and we do look forward to continuously working together to support the youth of our region.
The IGAD region hosts approximately 5.5 million refugees, with our work directly affecting vulnerable lives across our communities. Earlier today in Djibouti, I presided over the 5th Annual Steering Committee meeting of the Regional Migration Fund (RMF). Together with Member States and partners, we reviewed progress, reflected on lessons learned, and highlighted best practices in implementation. Through RMF, IGAD is working to improve key migration corridors, including Moyale–Moyale, Tog-Wajale, Nimule–Elegu, and the refugee-hosting areas of Addeh and Ali Sabieh, to promote safety, opportunities, and well-being for all.
Grateful to the Federal Republic of Germany, through @BMZ_Bund and @KfW, for its ongoing trust and partnership as we work towards safer, smarter, and more dignified mobility across the region.

The Leadership Academy today facilitated a Regional Webinar convened by its Cohort II Alumni, bringing together hundreds of young people from across the continent to amplify youth engagement in the peace and security sector.
Delivering the keynote address, ILA Director @DrKinyanjui commended ILA alumni for organising such a critical forum, saying such initiatives greatly amplify and complement the Academy’s work. He pledged the Academy’s unwavering support for Alumni initiatives.
@IGADYouthEnvoy Sam Ogwal outlined the measures that #IGAD has put in place to streamline youth involvement in peace and security. He underscored the importance of such regional forums as part of a collective effort to transform the region.
In a clear call to action, the youth presented a declaration that, among other priorities, urges meaningful youth inclusion, particularly in efforts to address the ongoing #Sudan conflict.
