مجال الـ Harness Engineering بيبقى من أهم المهارات لبناء AI agents. في repository مفتوح المصدر بيشرحه من خلال 14 محاضرة، و8 مشاريع عملية، و4 تحليلات للأنظمة المحيطة ببعض الـ agents المتقدمة.

لما الـ agent بيفشل، المشكلة في أحيان كتير بتكون في النظام اللي حواليه او ال Harness: إزاي المهمة اتقسمت، وإيه الـ context اللي وصله، وإزاي بنراجع شغله، وإيه اللي بيحصل لو خطوة فشلت. والنظام ده هو المقصود بالـ harness.

شركة Anthropic وضّحت تأثير ده في تجربة استخدمت فيها نفس الموديل على نفس المهمة.استخدام agent واحد كلّف حوالي 9 دولارات، واستغرق نحو 20 دقيقة، وطلع بلعبة مش شغّالة. أما النظام اللي فصل أدوار التخطيط والتنفيذ والتقييم، فكلّف حوالي 200 دولار، واستغرق نحو 6 ساعات، وطلع بلعبة قابلة للعب.

الموديل كان نفسه في الحالتين، لكن تنظيم الشغل حواليه اختلف، ومعاه زاد الوقت والتكلفة بشكل كبير للوصول لنتيجة أفضل.

الكورس بيركز على إزاي تبني النظام ده بشكل عملي. في البداية، بتدي الـ agent مهمة باستخدام prompt بس، وبعدها بتشغل نفس المهمة بقواعد واضحة وتقارن النتيجتين.

ومع كل مشروع، بتضيف جزء جديد للـ harness:

← تسليم الشغل والـ context بين ال sessions .
← تحديد نطاق المهمة وحدود التعديلات المسموحة.
← مراجعة الـ agent لشغله قبل ما يعتبره خلص.
← التعامل مع الأخطاء واستكمال الشغل بعد الفشل.
← فصل التخطيط عن التنفيذ.

ولما توصل للمشروع الثامن، بتبني workflow بنمط الـ maker-checker على هيئة graph، فيه agent بينفّذ الشغل وواحد تاني بيراجعه، مع إمكانية الرجوع عن التغييرات وطلب موافقة بشرية وقت الحاجة.

وحل كل مشروع بيكون نقطة البداية للمشروع اللي بعده، فبتطوّر نفس النظام تدريجيًا وتشوف تأثير كل إضافة على طريقة شغله وقدرتك على التحكم فيه.

وكمان المستودع فيه تحليلات لطريقة بناء الـ agent harnesses في أدوات وأنظمة زي Claude Code وCodex وDeepSeek وPi.

Another insane Jev use case!

Traditional database filters need precise, predefined conditions. But many questions are semantic:

- Is this article mainly about software engineering?
- Which topic best describes it?
- How technically deep does it appear?

These usually require moving rows into application code, invoking a model, parsing its output, and writing the result back.

pg-jev is an open-source Postgres extension that exposes Jev through SQL functions.

- jev() works inside WHERE
- jev_prob() returns a probability
- jev_choice() selects a label
- jev_score() ranks rows across ordered levels.

It needs no vector column or embedding index.

Under the hood, pg-jev batches rows, sends them to Jev, and returns typed answers that SQL can filter, sort, group, and combine with exact predicates.

The recording below runs it against real Hacker News stories stored in Postgres.

It first shows the rows, then asks Jev to find software-engineering stories, classify them by topic, and rank them by technical depth. The final query reports requests, tokens, cost, and cache hits from the database session.

Postgres keeps the data and controls the query, while Jev handles the part SQL cannot express as a deterministic condition.
