@Catherineoscopy Luckily today, the vast majority of my colleagues believe that engaging undergraduates in research is great. But, there was a time where undergraduate co-authorship was hit or miss depending on the make up of the status committee.

@Catherineoscopy These folks would disqualify (in promotion and tenure cases) publications with undergraduate co-authors. Even if pub was in a respected peer-reviewed journal, the assumption was undergraduates merely did grunt work. In their mind, faculty must do ALL the work to get credit.
