There are so many heroes in the @WSDashBaseball 10th-inning walkoff 9-8 win.
NEVER doubt this team. They’ve led High-A in runs scored in the 8th inning or later, and they pulled yet another late-inning rally again tonight. The team has a lot of heart and toughness, most likely reflecting manager Guillermo Quiróz, who is taking his third straight Sox affiliate into the post-season.
The team was down 6-0 and looking for its first base runner in the bottom of the 4th when even the most diehard Dash supporters were anxious. But a 2-run homer by James Taussig and a 3-run homer by Braden Holcomb closed the gap to 1 run and gave the team back its swagger.
Taussig was in Kannapolis, Winston-Salem and Birmingham this year before returning to the Dash in late August to add a huge boost to the lineup. Holcomb, meanwhile, is a 2026 draftee who spent 15 games with Kannapolis before being sent to Winston-Salem as a depth piece when Derek Cerda went on the IL for a possible concussion last week. Then, when George Wolkow broke his toe a few days ago, Holcomb found himself in the lineup for a High-A playoff game.
And then there’s Javier Mogollon, who comes up in the bottom of the 9th, the Dash trailing by 3, with 2 on and 2 out and a new pitcher coming into the game expressly to face him. Mogollon responds by jacking the first pitch he sees over the LF wall.
Then it was time for reliever Carlton Perkins to step up. Carlton was the 7th hurler of the night for the Dash and he started the 10th, of course, with a ghost runner on second base. He hit the first batter, and then a groundout put runners on second and third with just 1 out. But he got a huge strikeout on a couple of nasty sliders before the next batter flied out to LF to end the threat.
The Bowling Green offense was torrid early, scoring 8 runs in 4 of the first 6 innings before Max Banks and Aric McAtee combined to throw 3 shutout innings and keep the Dash within shouting distance.
Nick McLain came up in the bottom of the 10th, got into a hitter’s count and hammered a fastball into the right-center gap to walk it off.
The team has a grueling 9-hour bus ride tomorrow as it heads to Bowling Green for the second game in the best of three. They’ll likely start Grant Umberger, who should match up well against a lefty-oriented Hot Rod lineup.

In their most crucial stretch of the season, the @WSDashBaseball went on the road to Greensboro and Greenville (SC) in back-to-back weeks and won 4 of 6 in each of the hard-fought series. As a result, the team is well-positioned for a playoff berth with 12 games left in the season. Not only are the Dash 3 up on Greenville in the loss column, they’re just 1 behind division-leading Bowling Green. That’s an amazing development, considering they were 6 back of the Hot Rods on Aug. 1.
Bowling Green starts a 6-game series in Winston-Salem tomorrow, coming into those games having won just 2 of their last 11. They’ve been a dangerous team all season and it is unlikely they’ll roll over, given the stakes but the recent performance is worth noting.
The Dash offense has been unstoppable all season, having recorded a crazy number of late-game comebacks, and the last 2 weeks were more of the same. The team put up 45 runs in 6 games in Greensboro and 43 in Greenville. The team looked on the ropes in the 4th game of the series in Greenville, having lost the previous 2 games and trailing 7-1 late in this one. But a 6-run rally in the 8th tied it up before the Dash pulled it out in 10 innings. Then, on Sunday, the Dash trailed 4-1 before a 10-run 7th broke it open.
Just look at some of the numbers for the last 2 weeks: OBP leaders were Kaleb Freeman, .435; Jeral Perez, .429; Kyle Lodise, .414; and Javier Mogollon, .407. Leadoff hitter Ely Brown had 17 hits and 5 walks in 11 games; George Wolkow had 17 hits, including 6 homers, and 4 walks in 12 games; Lodise had 16 hits and 8 walks in 12 games; and Perez had 14 hits and 7 walks in 10 games.
The pitching staff had its hands full in both series but repeatedly stepped up when it counted. Starters Justin Sinibaldi, Grant Umberger and Drew McDaniel had ERAs of 3.72, 2.87 and 3.38, respectively, over the two-week stretch. Several relievers excelled as well. But every guy in the bullpen needs to get in games to get in work, even guys who are scuffling, and most minor-league games require 3-5 relievers, so most leads never feel safe.
Get your rest today, Dash, I suspect more drama awaits!

After being promoted by the @whitesox earlier in the day, former @MocsBaseball standout Aric McAtee earned the win in his debut for the @BhamBarons last night.
McAtee hurled a hitless sixth inning in the Barons win over Knoxville.
McAtee was 2-3 with 3 saves and a 3.63 era in 15 appearances with @WSDashBaseball.
McAtee registered 13 wins during his two seasons (2022-23) at @FLSouthern.

When someone on the left gets fired for what they said, it's: "Donald Trump wants to take away free speech".
When someone on the right gets fired for what they said, it’s just and makes sense. “They deserved it.”
This isn’t about being principled, they simply will use any tool to attempt to make Trump and the right look bad. That’s the goal.
“It’s not illegal to say Charlie deserved to die and you’re glad he did. They have a right to say that. BUT we have a right to FIRE you. You can’t walk into the office and say you’re into homicide...”
Jimmy Kimmel just learned this the hard way!! Jesse is spot on here!! 🔥👇🏼
