Marketing guy who has kissed Errol Flynn's old girlfriend, wrote best selling business book, sold 1 zillion ugg boots and has a dessert named after him.
The biggest lie in business is "It's not that simple."
The biggest lie in marketing is "It's not that simple."
Here's how our restaurant client became the highest-ranked restaurant in the state (and # 2 in the entire country).

Here's the one thing you have to do in any business speech you give.
(Get this wrong and you'll fall flat on your face.)
Take the mickey out of yourself.
Be self-deprecating.
Poke fun at yourself.
Whatever way you want to put it, never talk about how great you are.
@RivalDarkSide@hr_unhinged Are we still going? A bit boring.
Still doing petty insults, and doing the "I don't care" stuff - except here you are again.
@lucawashenko Ooooooh, nice! What a wonderful learning experience for you and your finance people.
I'm not sure they'll be the same finance people next week??
@lucawashenko@jemildm Super easy, super effective compromise of your email.
Sometimes an inside job on the part of someone at the supplier company.
Been super common for 15+ years.
There it is again.
You're angry about a tiny thing on the web, and your default setting is mocking, sarcasm & acting like a child.
Next time you disagree with someone, see if you can rebut what they said in a reasonable and measured way. Instead of like a whiny 14 yo with insecurity issues.
@AnthonyinOC68@jesswilkinson19@hr_unhinged I bloody love that this riduclous thread has got you guys to meet each other and connect over what you do.
I'm not sure because what you're saying sounds like code to me, but love it, lads. Keep it up!
@RivalDarkSide@hr_unhinged Mate, you're cranky with some bloke on the internet 5,000 miles away who said something inconsequential that you disagree with.
Sure. You're fine.
Good points. But I disagree a bit with "We're grown ups".
Nope.
Some people lack the confidence/skills to ask someone to take off their headphones and talk.
A HUGE challenge for our business was getting the Uni grads with marketing degrees to answer the phone. Make a call to a client? Forget it. Impossible.
They'd go out on stress leave (and I'm not making this up).
Oh mate, "Bomb Disposal guy - but his teammates are telling him the disarm code."
Condescending much?
Along with nuance, let's add "Don't take every single thing literally, when it's just an exaggerated example."
Ok, try this:
Bomb Disposal guy - when he's about to disarm the bomb, don't start talking about your cat being constipated.
@Anubis_Awaits@hr_unhinged IT can be a challenge managing a range of needs and wants, and idiosyncrasies.
It's all about balance, and doing the right thing for the greater good. Thanks for the input.
