I expect the Jazz to target a center by the trade deadline.

The recent signings add depth, but those players can't be traded until December. Utah will spend the first half of the season evaluating the roster before pursuing an upgrade.

It’s a such a huge deal that our two all star players, Lauri and JJJ, are not big alpha personalities. They totally fine as a second tier star on a team leading the way for Key and DP to take the leader role. Key has the personality to be the guy and DP has the game.

What remains: who we get to fill the starting center role. They don’t have to rush, they can play JJJ, Nurk, Flip. Not gonna beat Wemby or win a ship that way, but with 10 1st round picks in the next 7 years (!!!) and tons of 2nd rounders to make the right trade when it comes up.

My friend asked me about the Kessler trade. Heres my explanation.

Kessler wasn’t happy with our offer of 27.5 M per year. As a restricted free agent he’s allowed to go talk to other teams and get offers. Lakers said we want him, Jazz said we’ll just match whatever you offer…

I’m gonna miss Kessler big time and I’ve been depressed all morning:( especially since he’s going to the lakers 🤮. But I do think it was the better long term decision for the team. Our championship window just got a little longer….

The Jazz as a basketball team are worse over the next season or two without Walker. That’s just a fact. Probably healthier as an organization overall without him plus the picks but on the court we are without a doubt worse in the short term.

Honestly thought the Jazz would match a deal with a number of $32.5 average, but they clearly drew a line.

Jazz now have to go find some added rim protection and rebounding.

Jusuf Nurkic played an underrated role in Keyonte’s breakout year. His ability to stretch the floor and operate as a hub opened the court (especially in five-out) and Key used that space to his advantage extremely well.

Not to mention he’s also just a great screen-setter.
