Senior content marketer at @JoinStatus.
I blog about social media + martech.
I share stuff for B2B writers.
Hey, listen to my writing playlist (pinned).
Constantly find yourself looking for fresh "work music?" Bored with your current library of lofi beats and/or classical playlists?
I put together a massive vocal-free playlist for writing (and spent way too long on it not to share):
Ch-ch-check it out: https://t.co/FUA4sPfoVS
@alexjyork Just caught the replay for this. Maddening call for sure. Probably a broken record but: arm's already up before the ball leaves the ground (natural position!), doesn't have time to react because he's already in motion and IIRC hitting body first isn't a handball anyhow.
I don’t understand the eager desire to remove humans from human artistic expression, which looks at art and positions humans as an inefficiency to remove from it. It speaks to a contempt for both art and humanity, which would reduce both to commodities.
Sending out the SEO bat signal re: moving a blog (with hundreds of posts) away from a subdomain.
ex: https://t.co/9hvM3Afr5k > https://t.co/RCfKlnDuhF
Seems like a situation where there are a lot of horror stories. Looking for any tips, guides, how not to break everything lol
@alexjyork@taylorannberg@djthewriter Thanks, man! I won't panic, then.
Yeah, this is all happening in the midst of a content audit/update push so the timing is convenient.
I guess the extra layer of concern is that the main (destination?) site is on WP while the blog is through HubSpot.
@TylerHakes Thanks! Feeling more like this at the moment but I think I'll get there lol Han SOLO is very much appropriate for all of the writer-marketer-content-SEO-misc roles out there.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Rourke after a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer.
Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul by those who knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music fans.
We request privacy at this sad time
@ChloeWest28 Man, I hate to hear this. The notion that "Oh, we'll just use AI" to replace someone with your level of experience is just so naive. Not to mention super insulting. Their loss and hopefully you bounce back.
Also, this creates a weird phenomenon where the people shouting CHARGE WHAT YOU'RE WORTH RAISE THOSE RATES are likely underpaying the freelancers they outsource to.
And they can justify paying these writers less by presenting themselves as a solo business versus an agency.
It's wild how many writers do this but not all that surprising. The SIX FIGURE FREELANCER crowd almost ~always~ recommends outsourcing after hitting a certain client threshold. It's like a milestone.
Freelancers? Operating as agencies? It's more likely than you'd think.
We had to let a freelancer go because we found out they were using subcontractors without our knowledge.
Freelancers: don’t do this.
We were confused about the quality coming in, but once that hit it all clicked.
@JoelKlettke I've played around with some of the iZotope plugins that use AI for EQing, matching the tone of a track to a reference, etc. They're pretty cool. Definitely requires prior knowledge and tweaking to make the most of them.
Just a weird feeling to do keyword research, feel that deja vu when reading something and then realize "Oh, this is totally ours." And then you take a step back and realize the whole post is spun.
Five (5) times in the past week I've run into instances of competing blogs explicitly using examples from our posts.
I know there's no real recourse or accountability and it's a gray area with blogging/SEO. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" but it's still annoying.
These are very specific examples of social media interactions, niche influencers, etc. Not a coincidence. I understand why these examples get stolen because yeah, they're difficult to find.
@upmostmike Less is more. I see writers using a lot of unnecessary stats, usually conveying something that's conventional wisdom or doesn't really need a # tied to it. The worst is every other social-related post starting off with "[Platform] has [x] million users! Woah!"
On this day 40 years ago, the biggest selling 12" single of all time, Blue Monday was released on Factory Records.
