@MLBaseball_Live “The Mets’ offer would have come with a $55MM average annual value. Tucker’s agreement with L.A. will be calculated a little north of $57MM annually after adjusting the net present value to account for $30MM in deferrals.”
57M >55M. And you said it was “no where close”.
@MLBaseball_Live “It’s a very similar structure to the four-year, $240MM deal which Tucker accepted from the Dodgers. The opt-out provisions were identical. New York offered a higher signing bonus and the absence of deferred money, while the Dodgers went the extra $20MM on overall guarantee.”

Net present value of Tucker’s deal will be $57M per season, beating Juan Soto’s previous record by more than $6M, sources tell The Athletic. Deferrals total $30M - $10M in each of last three seasons. First with deferred amount: @JonHeyman
@joshjaco98 If they had traded him, would’ve been awful thin on depth. It’s remarkable they’ve went half a season without a starting pitcher injury.
Maybe makes more sense if they traded and used some of that money to sign one of those aforementioned starters as well.
@joshjaco98 If we could all see regression, isn’t it safe to assume MLB front offices could as well?
Seems like it would just be easier to sign all the available pitchers in his tier then trade assets: Quintana, Lorenzen, Heaney, etc.
@JonPgh I’ve always felt fine how it is as guys who’ve had the best seasons, if not starting, will be in playing the late innings and get a shot to decide the game.
@joshjaco98 As you have the forum, go back over the last 10 years & check data for the Cardinals or any team that doesn’t use 6 plus starters for a significant amount of starts. Would be a great post.
While I agree with your frustration, if healthy I suspect both will get plenty of run.
@stlfanbc7 Although Matz’s range of 3 to 5 innings this April probably isn’t going to make it that significant of difference overall and feels all too familiar.
@stlfanbc7 How does SP innings and QS compare to last April? Feels like last April it was a real 5 and dive rotation if they even got through 5 innings.
