NEW: Minnesota judge has overturned a jury’s guilty verdict in a $7.2 million Medicaid fraud case.

Yusuf and his wife, Lul Ahmed, were accused of siphoning $7.2 million in taxpayer money through Medicaid overbilling in a personal care assistant scam. Prosecutors said the couple funneled tens of thousands of those funds into luxury purchases for themselves.

The jury convicted Yusuf but Judge Sarah West decided they got it wrong, tossing the verdict and issuing a judgment of acquittal.

One juror from the case was stunned by the judge’s decision, saying:
“I am shocked. I’m shocked based on all the evidence that was presented to us and the obvious guilt we saw from that evidence.”
