Noticed something interesting in Genesis 31 when Laban and Jacob are making their covenant to leave each other alone. The NIV translates it like this:

“‘May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us.’ So Jacob took an oath in the name of the Fear of his father Isaac.”
Genesis 31:53 NIV

Most translations say it like this. Makes it seem like it’s the same God they both worship, Yahweh. But… CSB and NET take this approach:

“‘The God of Abraham, and the gods of Nahor — the gods of their father  — will judge between us.’ And Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.”
Genesis 31:53 CSB

“‘May the God of Abraham and the god of Nahor, the gods of their father, judge between us.’ Jacob took an oath by the God whom his father Isaac feared.”
Genesis 31:53 NET

Laban didn’t worship Yahweh. Different gods… the ones Abram left and ran from to follow God most High (El Elyon).
