Two observations from MILB opening day: 1) Julio Rodriguez looks very comfortable for an 18 year old in A ball. He’s the next big thing. 2) Dustin May isn’t long for AA. Overwhelmed hitters tonight.
80 power guys to watch: Ibandel Isabel(1B only profile, bad body, likely AAA fodder), Anthony Garcia (most power in the Yankees MILB, but 40% K rate in the GCL) and Will Benson (elite approach, power, arm, makeup, but poor swing mechanics get in the way)
3 1B prospects to track this year: Evan White (does the swing change lead to more pop?), Malcolm Nunez (Monster stats in DSL, but was physically too advanced for that league) and Luis Toribio(Don’t think he sticks at 3B, elite approach but perhaps maxed out frame)
Florial and Heliot have received a lot of national coverage, but Bubba Thompson is of the same athletic mold, plays center field, and has a better chance of hitting. Give him his due.
We have acquired Zach Eflin, Vince Velasquez, Mickey Moniak, and Spencer Howard for Madison Bumgarner. We wish Bumgarner the best moving forward as he goes on to join the @Phillies24R
Jason Dominguez is the most tooled up prospect in IFAs in recent memory, but I’m willing to bet he won’t be the best player from his class. All these players are 16, the age of HS sophomores. A lot can change.
#Indians 19yr old RHP prospect Luis Oviedo had a breakout season in 2018. Over his last two seasons between AZL Indians, Mahoning Valley & Lake County Oviedo has 137 strikeouts over just 108.2 (IP) good for a 11.35 (SO/9) rate.
Sixto can be a number 1 starter, which I can't say about too many guys in the minors. But over the past year, the odds of him becoming that have slipped.
Robles also has a very strange quirk: He has an extremely high HBP rate in the minors. Considering the minor injuries that have dinged him for the past few years, that's something to monitor.
Fantasy wise, I'd be a bit concerned. But Robles is one of the most physically gifted defenders to come out of the minors in a long time. He'll be plenty valuable on defense.
Victor Robles ranks 733rd out of 777 players in average exit velocity the last two years. @jjcoop36 on the reason to be concerned about the Nationals No. 1 prospect https://t.co/RM63X6vWMU
