NFT BULL MARKET:
Yuga breathes 😮💨
Everyone: NEVER FADE YUGA
NFT BEAR MARKET:
Yuga breathes 😮💨
Everyone: FUD YUGA TO DEATH
The Yuga hate this cycle is palpable. It’s unfair at times. But people are irrational, bull or bear.
I can feel that vibes are shifting in the Swamp

10 thoughts about @OverpassIP from an IP maxi:
1️⃣ A trustworthy IP platform is much needed in the space after all the scam IP licensing attempts before
2️⃣ Overpass is not the 1st platform who tried this. Remember @boredjob?
3️⃣ But what made people bullish on Overpass? Luca 🐧
4️⃣ Luca and team were able to build @pudgypenguins brand. They’re able to sell 750K+ toys during S1. And now, they’re doing S2 via Overpass. This can be the 1st successful use-case in the platform
5️⃣ But let’s talk about supply & demand in the Overpass IP platform:
Supply:
- up to 8888 Penguins
- up to 21535 Lil Pudgies
- up to 10000 Bored Apes
- with more IPs to come
Demand:
- Pudgy Penguins today for their S2
- end of list at the moment
Even if Overpass team onboards more brands to seek licensing opportunities in the platform, supply will still outweigh demand heavily. Not all who use the platform will get deals
6️⃣ Who will be the brands to potentially seek NFT IPs? Based from experience, these are brands who are opening up to web3. At the moment, there’s not much but I hope the number increases as web3 gains more adoption. I think Pudgy Penguins success can also help onboard Brands to try web3 IPs
7️⃣ If Brands get into Web3, why will they want to use your IP? They can either buy a Penguin themselves, or use their own character? The answer will be risk aversion & noteriety
8️⃣ Risk Aversion - Brands may opt for less risk for a tactical and seasonal campaign. Say Christmas. They look for IPs with Christmas theme and make items with it, rather than buying these IPs and it ends up being stuck with them. That way, they don’t have to spend much to buy the NFTs
9️⃣ Noteriety - your NFT IP has already gained popularity and will be hard for brands to ignore. Say @TheRealDrBombay. Noteriety allows your IP to stand out from the rest of the collection in a certain and unique way
1️⃣0️⃣ How to build noteriety for your IP? Well, you have to bring your IP to life on your own or with partners & not just rely on a licensing platform.
IP licensing platform is great! But it’s not everything. You still have to work on your IP to make it. 🧱
Cheers, fellow IP maxis! 🥂
With all this talk of a physical clubhouse, I think of how it can be a benefit to holders but also something that is at least revenue-neutral for Yuga to run.
A place where you could bullshit with each other at the bar, grab a conference room to talk about a business or AIP, an arcade to play the latest games, or stock up on the latest Made by Apes products.
Granted you had access to an IRL clubhouse in your city, would you be willing to pay an annual membership fee of $2-3k. No brainer right?
What does it mean to be in Bored Ape Yacht Club?
It is to belong in a network of degens, and a network of builders
It is to be part of a global web3 community, and a local chapter of that community
It is to vibe in discord & X daily with fellow apes
It is to play fun games, & to compete for stupid prizes against other apes
It is to have access to the Clubhouse, both in Otherside & IRL
It is meeting online friends IRL in Apefest
It is never missing merch drops, even if you have to line up for hours IRL
It is being empowered to create something Made By Apes
It is to be part of internet culture
It is deathnut challenge
It is trolling @tropoFarmer
It is welcoming new apes a-bored
It has never been about the floor price, tho that’s nice, of course
It has always been about the community
It has always been about the network
It has always been about empowering you, just because you own an ape IP
It has always been a lifestyle
It is not just @yugalabs@BoredApeYC is all of us & what we make it out to be 🦍
In Q1 2023, we got Dookey Dash 🚽
In Q1 2024, we’re getting Dookey Dash again 🐮
And this time, no Sewer Passes needed. Everyone can enter the sewers!
It would be interesting to see if Yuga attaches $APE, Meebits, Kodas, HVs or Apes as prizes for Dookey Dash Unclogged tho 🤔
And to naysayers saying this is just a recycled game, listen
Remember when apes are clamoring for the return of Dookey Dash to help with the vibes while waiting for the next big thing from Yuga? Well, here’s their response. It’s good to see Yuga still listens! 🫡
And no, I’m not part of the @yugalabsgaming council 😂
BAYC MERCH: a mega thread 🧵
A thread about threads, if you will 😉
Been meaning to put something like this together for a long time. Really just meant to highlight a few of my favorites but accidentally catalogued the majority of pieces! Let me know what I missed, let me know what your personal faves are, or let me know what you’d like to see in a future drop! Also shoutout to the merch king @null_eth for helping compile all the items!
So let’s start with an overview, drop by drop, piece by piece, along with some of my favorites in each collection. I count 11 total drops featuring 7 broad categories of merch…
Best part about these dips is all the new ape fam! If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask any member with the verified ape name tag 🍌
WELCOME TO THE SWAMP!
When most NFT collections are on life support right now, Cryptopunks are amazingly trading above $150K.
And yet I feel these are rookie numbers for punks.
Send it. 🚀
“The higher the monkey climbs a tree, the more you can see his ass.” - T. Boone Pickens
Yuga has been overly scrutinized for various reasons. But criticism stems from one thing imo: Yuga assets being laggards vs others as of late 🐢
And I’ll try to contextualize that here ⬇️
Back in 2021, BAYC rose meteorically into prominence. Yuga became a powerhouse that once captured 80% of all NFT trading volume in a given day. But since then Yuga’s had glaring misses, other projects caught up, and Blur & Opensea made web3 landscape shift away from royalties
It’s tempting & fun to ridicule the struggles of Yuga today. But it’s easy to overlook how many forces pull an industry leader away from their competitive advantage as a leader. Yuga’s always had a big target at their back 🎯
According to @morganhousel, here are 5 things that eat away competitive advantage. I’ll try to relate them to Yuga:
1️⃣ Pitfall of being right instills confidence that you can’t be wrong.
- Dookey Dash last year was a massive success. The Forge, not so much. And Yuga hadn’t done enough pivots during The Forge to make things better for grinding players
2️⃣ Success leads to growth, but a big organization is different from a small one
- Yuga has grown from an upstart group to a large startup with $4Bn valuation. Strategies that worked before can’t be done right now.
- I always like to say “what got you here won’t get you there”
3️⃣ Irony that people often work to gain competitive advantage for the intended purpose of not having to work as hard in the future
- Not necessarily relating to Yuga, but maybe it relates to its holders. Holders had been so pampered with price go up & airdrops. This made non-holders work hard for BAYC/MAYC. But the changing world proves that this isn’t the case anymore today. Days of $10k airdrops may be gone
4️⃣ Skill that’s valuable in one era may not extend to the next
- Yuga has relied on royalties for stream of income. That’s why airdrops worked before. Because Yuga can earn once they’re sold in the marketplace. But with the advent of Blur and Opensea, Yuga had to look in the mirror and pivot (to a Magic Eden marketplace that would enforce royalties)
5️⃣ Success is owed to being in the right place at the right time
- It’s no secret that BAYC started the whole PFP as membership, community, IP trend. The early BAYC vibes were so special. Yuga hit a lightning in a bottle moment with that. It will be hard to replicate this again moving forward
Yuga suddenly being the top Web3 company puts much attention to everything they do. Every miss, every mistake, every wrong is magnified. Being on top of the tree, exposes the ape’s ass to everyone
But not all is lost. Yuga still is a powerhouse, they’re still well funded, and they’re now equipped with experience & learning from recent misses + what’s working in the new landscape
I trust that @yugalabs@dalegre@CryptoGarga@GordonGoner & team have a plan in place. It may be a pivot and it may take some time. I think Yuga goes all out once their new marketplace with @MagicEden goes out. Til then, we need to be patient.
We also need to be proactive. We can look into how we can be value-adding members of the club. Be the change you want Yuga to be.
We can watch & enjoy others cook for now. But it would be a grave mistake to fade Yuga.
