Karen Wynn Fonstad was a novice cartographer who painstakingly plumbed J.R.R. Tolkien’s books and notes to draw atlases of Middle-earth, the setting of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings.” Her maps became crucial for the films that followed. https://t.co/fQu2YSQKmF

Big fun reporting this one for @Thrillist. From the idyllic Wisconsin vacation town that gave birth to Dungeons & Dragons — but is only just now kinda laying claim to it. https://t.co/i2ghj73Zpq
BREAKING:
Maine's House just voted to pass the National Popular Vote compact, which would give all of Maine's electors to the winner of the national popular vote.
The bill will now move to the Senate.

More and more, when I use the word "catholic" in the small-c sense, I realize people have no idea what I'm talking about. This just kinda fallen out of the vocab?
I like being an adult but tbh my one gripe is the Dishes. oh, the dishes. I am always doing dishes. when this world ends and our sun is nothing but a shriveled, dead star, when the mountains crumble to dust and the oceans dry, there I will stand. doing the dishes.

Sorry but I have to share a bit more of this morning’s Downeast Maine meteorology magic, with 15F overnight chill clashing with far warmer sea temperatures, creating an astonishing frost crystal cloak on marsh grasses and drifting sea mist.
