One year ago, today, Nikki Cheng Saelee McCain woke up. This was the last day she’d see the sun. We have all spent a lot of time thinking about what she did, where she went, who she was with … and then what happened in the early hours of May 18, 2024. Unfortunately, one year later, we are left with more questions than answers.

Just months before, Nikki was the victim of horrific physical abuse, allegedly perpetrated by her husband.

She was due to stand and testify against him in a matter of days after she went missing.

Nikki’s last communication with her family was just after midnight on May 18th. Her vehicle was found abandoned in Tehama County on May 25, 2024.

One year with no clear answer, no justice for Nikki. One year for Nikki’s children not hearing their mother’s voice. One year that her sisters and family have spent desperately searching for Nikki.

The vice is closing on those responsible.

Here’s the Coles Notes regarding my thoughts on the #NancyGuthrie investigation, which I shared on @PodcastSTS tonight.

I’m working off public information like everyone else and my thoughts are based on that information at this moment in time.

One theory floating around is a botched nighttime robbery. Nighttime robberies are uncommon, but they do happen. Nancy’s home is more at risk for a nighttime robbery for the following reasons:
- Expensive neighborhood
- Quiet neighborhood
- Properties set back from road
- Large lots limit neighbor proximity and visibility
- Properties concealed by vegetation
- Darkness intentional to limit light pollution

If the suspect did in fact visit Nancy Guthrie’s home on more than one occasion, it makes me question the level of sophistication, but it does indicate an increase in risk tolerance, determination, and persistence, which all speak to motive and possibly identity.

Distance travelled and repetition amplify all of these. The greater the distance travelled and repeated attempts made all indicate a greater perceived reward. It also suggests that the reward was not easily substituted or replaced.

There is a scenario in which a Guthrie getaway car was not clearly recorded on a traffic camera.

•City of Tucson tells Fox it doesn't use traffic cameras to record vehicles

•Pima County say it has cameras that record but its imperfect, may not catch plates

•Nearby Oracle Road which partially connects Nancy's to Annie's neighborhood is a state route. AZ DOT says it has cameras but also doesn't record
