I’ve seen images from the Johannesburg premiere of The Devil Wears Prada. Great effort was made by the attendees. In fact I cannot fault any, at least from what my eyes have been privy to. That @Bonang understood something others missed. She anticipated that everyone would ‘dress up’. So, instead of competing in that lane, she opted to shift the conversation by bringing Miranda Priestly’s executive authority and control.
You see, when you attend events like these, you honour the invite yes, but you deviate slightly from the brief. You predict the obvious, and then deliberately move in the opposite direction. It’s all about positioning yourself above everyone else. The pencil skirt is the winner of that entire hugging, exquisite black & white ensemble, as it revealed her long legs, accentuating her built-for- runway silhouette. She crowned the look with that 1920s flapper elegance articulated through the stockings, choice of shoes, easy makeup and neat hair. Her look said I AM HERE, I AM WEALTHY, I AM IN CHARGE e bile ke GROOTMAN and you will look at me either with adoration or envy.

That boys and girls is the beauty that lies in being fluent in the language of style. You use expensive fabric and exceptional craftsmanship to SJAMBOK everyone in sight, with utmost grace of course.

PS. We really like folk who dress thoughtfully and elegantly so.
