Whatever you do, pray for the ability to see your own sins, your own hypocrisy, and your own shortcomings. Never get so carried away pointing fingers that you forget you, too, fall short.
unlearn shame. all forms of shame: unemployment, illness, vulnerability, longing, desire, errors, failures. you do not need to feel ashamed of what you are experiencing or living. freedom and shame cannot coexist.
I tell people that when you have mastered the act of contentment, people start thinking you have everything. Contentment doesn’t cancel desire; it cancels desperation.
As a straight A, intense biology and chemistry undergraduate, I believed in evolution. There was so much data, so much information, so much theory.
I am now a 17 year, extremely well educated, highly accomplished and intellectually experienced medical doctor and scientist.
Evolution is like many things. On the surface, it has a luster. But deeper examination exposes pyrite.
Fool's gold.
The first sip from the glass of secular science is atheistic, but God is at the bottom of the glass. (Paraphrased)
Inappropriate jokes should have no place in a Christian's life.
This includes laughing when coworkers share crude humor.
Our mouths and ears were created to praise God, build up others, and shine the light of Christ. "No corrupting talk should come from your mouth" (Eph. 4:29).
I’ve said this before, but being a genuinely kind and authentic person who expresses your vulnerabilities and/or doesn’t follow certain unspoken “social hierarchy” rules will put a major target on your back by those who see those traits as “performative” or even manipulative/deceitful.
People who consistently view others that way are telling on themselves. How we perceive the world (including other people) mirrors the conditions of our own inner world.
A healthy person does not interpret basic consideration as some kind of control tactic. A grounded person does not consistently assume the worst of others.
Doing so will either 1. eventually create a self-fulfilling prophecy, or, 2. result in the cognitive distortion of “confirmation bias,” where the other person cannot “win” no matter what they do because you have already decided their intentions or motivations for them.
People don't understand this and it frustrates me.
Jesus did this SPECIFICALLY with the temple. He had a zeal for His Fathers house. Christians still use this as an excuse to get mad and self righteous with others. That's not the case.
YOU are the temple now.
Overturn the tables you set up in your own temple, as it's priest, you have the authority to do so just like Jesus had the authority to do this in His Fathers temple.
I don't see many Christians willing to go at themselves with the same zeal they're willing to direct at others.
When God said to Adam and Eve that they would die if they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, He did not lie. When you understand immortality, you understand time, and when you understand time, you understand what actually happened in the garden. Why did Satan and the other fallen angels receive such a harsh punishment? Because they essentially killed God's children. You will live a life here on earth, but eventually you die and its a short life. 100 years is not even a long time in comparison to the eternity you were meant to live. God came in the flesh to die a single death so that you can be immortal again with Him after judgment.
You really should think about your time here on earth as a serious thing.
To waste any of it on the fleeting pleasures of sin is diabolically disrespectful.
Atheism is easiest when life is comfortable and within your control. But I’ve personally witnessed several times when people face things like a long prison sentences, terminal illness, violence or death.. something interesting happens.
Those who once claimed certainty suddenly begin praying, asking for mercy and hoping for something beyond themselves.
Because when you’re confronted with forces you can’t control, rebellion tends to fade, and humility tends to appear.
People can only meet you as deeply as they’ve met themselves and if you carry a lot of depth and have the inner world of an ocean it will feel like drowning to anyone who’s never left the shore
