#Jer19 God said: Buy a clay jar. Take some elders & tell everyone God will bring ruin because people have worshipped other gods. Break the jars as a symbol of what I’ll do.// God grace sends people to warn us of impending judgement.
#Jer18 God said can’t I do to Israel what the potter is doing to the clay? If I warn a nation & they repent; I will relent. So say to Judah, I’m preparing ruin; turn away from evil. J to God: my accusers say let’s be against J. Will you take revenge?// Let God be the avenger.
#Jer16 God said don’t marry people in this place. And don’t participate in funerals. You may ask what is wrong? What sin have we committed? It’s because your ancestors forsook me. But God is my salvation and God will teach me.// God wants our commitment and helps us commit.
#Jer15 God said I’m sending ruin. Will you mourn? You’ve rejected me. You keep backsliding. I’m sad you gave me life. God says I will deliver you for a good purpose. God you understand. God says if you repent; I restore.// God has compassion on us.
#Jer14 God said: Judah mourns for they have no water. Judah: we’ve sinned, do something, God! God: no, they love to wander. Jer asks why the prophets say they won’t die. God: they’re lying. People: We acknowledge our sin. We hope in you.// Our circumstances help us see our sin.
#Jer13 God had me buy a linen belt & let it get destroyed as an image of what he would do to the pride of Judah. Tell them to give glory to God before darkness makes you stumble. It’s hard to do good if you’re always doing evil.// God warns us in many ways to flee evil.
#Jer12 You’re always a good judge. But I want to talk about fairness. Why do evil people proposed? God says all my wicked neighbors who take the inheritance I gave Israel; I’ll uproot them. But I’ll also have compassion.// God is slow to anger; wanting all to be saved.
#Jer11 God told Jeremiah to remind Israel & Judah of the terms of the covenant. God said obey. But your ancestors didn’t listen or pay attention. Then God told me a plot against me. I prayed God let me see your vengeance.// We humans struggle to live God’s way.
#Jer10 People create idols from wood. Don’t fear them. They can’t do anything. No one is like you, God! You’re great. These gods didn’t create. You created earth. I know I need help. Correct me but do it gently. // Help me turn to you, God.
#Jer9 Oh that my head were a fountain springing up in my eyes. They get ready to share lies. So God says I’ll test them. Who is wise enough to understand? Open your ears to hear God’s word. I will punish all who are not circumcised in the heart. // God wants surrender.
#Jer8 The bones of people will be removed from the grave. God says why do people turn away? How can you say we’re wise because we have Gods law when those with the pen handle it falsely? So I’ll punish them. Since my people are crushed, I am crushed.// God empathizes with us.
#Jer7 God to Jeremiah: stand at the gates & preach this message: clean up your act. Get smart, your leaders are giving you lies. Tell them my anger is coming. But do they listen? No!// Do we listen when God’s rebukes us, our church, our communities?
#Jer6 Run for your lives! God says cut down trees for battering rams. Judgement is coming. Nobody is listening. They’ve turned from God. God speaks again: ask directions for the true road. Then take it. Watch out for barriers. An invasion is coming.// God warns because he cares.
#Jer4 if you return to me & put down your idols, then you could swear by my name & people would come praise my name. God says to Judah & Jerusalem, give up your pride. The enemy is coming. I’m sad. The land will be ruined.// Oh that we could turn our hearts to God.
#Jer3 If a couple divorce & one gets remarried, should they get back together? God always responds to true repentance. God is happy to take care of you. but I saw a woman who didn’t care & disobeyed. God kept calling her back.// God keeps pursuing us.
#Jer3 You’ve defiled the land with your prostitution. God asked about Israel’s faithfulness. Return! I would be happy to treat you as children. I thought you would call me Dad. But you’ve been unfaithful. Return! I’m inviting you back.// We are unfaithful. God invites us back.
#Jer2 God’s word came to me saying I remember your youthful devotion; you loved me. But your ancestors didn’t always follow me. Same with you. You worship worthless idols. You said I won’t serve you.// Israel didn’t always follow God well; nobody does.
#Jer1 God’s word came to Jeremiah saying I knew you before you were in your moms womb. I’ve appointed you to uproot & tear down & to build & plant. I’m going to send a people from the north to judge my people.// God gives us fair warning.
#Is66 Heaven is my throne & earth is my footstool. I will bless those with humble & contrite hearts. Your acts of worship are acts of sin. Listen, God says your own families hate you. But I’m going to gather all nations to you.// God is reconciling all things.
#Is65 God says I’m ready to help, but no one asked. People follow their own evil. But I don’t destroy them. I will preserve a remnant. I’ll create a new heavens & earth. Wolves & lambs will eat together.// God is ready to help reconcile anything and anybody.
