They're concentrating on launch angle and getting the barrell of the bat on the ball because that produces the most exit velocity which maximizes the end result more often than just trying to make contact at all costs.

You can say they "don't know how to HIT anymore," but until pitchers stop dominating the way they are with extreme speed and movement, this is the way to score runs.
