there are dilapidated neighborhoods and areas of major cities and the countryside in Russia, but there is the same thing in the United States as well.
The question is scale…… If you zero on Google maps and spend about eight hours doing that on any given day and just pick a few hundred or a few thousand random spots and places where the mobile google camera went around throughout any part of the world, you can determine by probability where there are the most blighted and dilapidated urban and rural areas.

So I’ve actually done this before, when I was extremely bored, and the difference of the scale and frequency of dilapidated/ blighted areas between the great powers of the earth, especially Russia and the United States, is not as stark as most people think…….. You can definitely see the mark of communism on former Soviet states, but I also think that there are more areas in greater proportion of areas in the United States that are way more trashed and dilapidated than some of the worst looking areas in Russia.
Again, anyone can look into this by spending enough time viewing the Google Earth photos through the zoom in……… I do imagine it would be more definitive if you went to the actual country and had a guide take you around various places.
