After the war in Gallipoli in August 1915, Hurst was listed as in a state of desertion on 22 July 1921 as shown on his medal card extract below.
His medals were sent to the local Belfast police station in an effort to lure him to collect them #warhistory#FilmTwitter
Diving into this, compiled by @doctoryatt from the archive of the the director Brian Desmond Hurst (aka the Empress of Ireland). Absolute treasure trove.
2021 is the 70th anniversary of Hurst's masterful Tom Brown's Schooldays (1951). Belfast's Hurst not only produced this classic but also directed most of the film although Hurst wanted the original director to retain his director credits. #FilmTwitter

@Christopher_T42 @TalkingPicsTV Importantly & selflessly the men selected to star on the big screen received no individual credits as they were representing the 10,000 men of the 1st Airborne. The Director - @briandhurst - Producer and crew also declined credits in the film for the same reason @AllanEslerSmith
@Christopher_T42 @TalkingPicsTV@briandhurst@AllanEslerSmith You can read more about the making of Theirs is the Glory, in this new book about the Director

This still was taken of Hurst and Sara Allgood whilst filming Irish Hearts in 1934. Hurst was Belfast born and loved filming in Ireland #ireland#film#irishfilm#britishfilm
Hurst's The Tell-Tale Heart 1934 was break through film direction in 1934. We are very excited that you are now able to watch it on the BFI player, link below.
The film was described as "too horrible to show" when it released in 1934! #film#1930sfilm https://t.co/WkqtgMXYyz
