Two weeks to Linda Mwananchi visit to Homabay on 16th of August, 2026, dirty toothed Opondo Kaluma has started giving the youth money inciting them against the meetings.
The young man have refused to take 1k each from him. They are demanding for Kshs. 5,000 daily for each for all those days inorder to listen to what he's telling them!
We will take this one to the car wash and clean his brown teeth properly! Let him go and ask Atandi what we did to him in Kisumu, Babu Owino is not a boy like theh imagine!
The reaction by the Linda Mwananchi masses to the entry into the movement by Aisha Jumwa reminds me of similar scenarios in 2002 and 2007.
In 2002, when the NARC-Rainbow wave took over and went on to win power, the question of who should NOT be allowed into the movement became an intriguing public discussion. Former VP George Saitoti had resigned from Kanu and wanted in. Everyone went "What, no! The architect of Goldenberg can't be allowed here! We are fumigating the country of Kanu's bad odour! Not Saitoti please!"
Maasai kingpin, William ole Ntimama, he of the "Kikuyus in Rift Valley must lie low like envelopes or we will cut them to size like the Igbos of Nigeria were" also came. Central Kenya NARC adherents were incredulous. 'How dare you admit the mastermind of Enoosupukia here. He has blood on his hand?". No one wanted Joseph Kamotho either. Wasn't that the Kanu SG who had defended every injustice, every wrong, every impunity, under Kanu? No way they were being allowed in.
Quite incredibly, all these Kanu bad apples joined NARC through LDP, the party of Raila Odinga, the undisputed standard bearer of democratic ideals and moral probity. What did Raila see in them that the idealistic NARC public didn't? Incidentally, when the count was done, these former Kanu sharks had played some of the biggest roles in the defeat of the Moi project, Uhuru Kenyatta and their former party. They had mobilised their backyards into a powerful anti-Kanu force. Most were rewarded with prime ministerial appointments in the new NARC administration in 2003.
Raila would be at at it again in 2007, when the entire Kalenjin system moved to his corner for the 2007 presidential run. Kibaki had treated the Kalenjin community like trash for five years, and they were seeking revenge, through the only man they believed would show Kibaki dust. Among the biggest players in the stolen Raila victory would end up being the indomitable Kipkalya Kones, cited in several reports over tribal clashes in the Rift Valley as a Kisigis warlord, William Ruto, a man with a political history darker than midnight, Henry Kosgey, who graced several pages of corruption scandals from the Kasarani Stadium construction, to many living Moi enablers whose tongues and hands wouldn't have qualified for sacrament.
What did Raila see or what did he look past?
In the case of 2002, the answer would have been easy. If the hippo comes out of the water and tells you that the crocodile is unwell, you must believe him. Those fleeing a bad regime are often the best witnesses to the depth of its evil. In common parlance, they know where the bodies are buried. The big shots abandoning Moi in 2002 provided perfect background to just unpopular Kanu had become. Everyone looked past their chequered history onto the potential of what they could offer in helping end Kanu's rule. And they delivered.
Today, the people fleeing the Ruto sinking ship hold the same position the ones in 2002 did. They represent "testimony". Forget Aisha Jumwa even. The most powerful face in this brigade is Rigathi Gachagua. He was number two in that evil cult. He was a heart beat away from the very top. And the catalogue of his sins is way more colourful than Jumwa's. A divisive tribal supremacist with the ability to effortlessly annoy even nuns and holy spirits, Gachagua would be the one people put a NO against his name. Yet conventional wisdom has it that Linda Mwananchi must work with him to win power. Working with Gachagua but not accepting Aisha Jumwa is akin to allowing Satan into a room then locking out Bernice Njeri because she stabbed her boyfriend.
NARC members in 2002 were thoroughly idealistic, just like today's young voters. In pursuit of democratic and moral purism, they have set a high bar for anyone coming in. But by December, everyone who has realised that the Ruto regime is falling, will be at the door. Movements are like floods. They carry rubbish in large amounts. They take everything along.
Celebrating @CJMarthaKoome for her amazing publication and for believing that greatness is when you pass the baton.
That to write your story is to inspire generations.
I am in awe at the greatness of God to be sharing a room with powerful women. 🙏
Edwin Sifuna has not stolen from the public or at all. He has led an honest and modest but illustrious and successful life and career as an Advocate and leader. In fact, his simple house is indicative of the degree and height of his accountability and integrity. He is the model leader.
According to Andrew Ndola Ndolo, the son of Kenya's first Kenya Army Major General,
President Moi was exceptionally humble despite his high office.
The two families were next-door neighbours in Kabarnet Gardens,
Moi made it a habit to walk to their house
A simple gesture that spoke volumes about his character.
