The Prophet ﷺ asked more, and as the father approached, Jibreel (Gabriel) descended and told the Prophet ﷺ:

> “Allah heard what the father said in his heart and composed in poetic verses.”

The Prophet ﷺ then asked the father:

> “Recite to me what you said in your heart, for Allah has revealed it to me.”

The old man recited:

> "I nourished you when you were a baby,
and I took care of you when you were young.
I spent my wealth on you, and you grew up before my eyes.
When you reached maturity and strength,
you treated me like a servant, as if I owed you something.
I wish you had been kinder to me—even a little.
At least as a neighbor is kind to a neighbor.
You gave me the harshest words, and frowned at me—
as if I was the one who wronged you."

When the Prophet ﷺ heard this, he began to cry and held the old man’s hand.

He turned to the son and said:

"You and your wealth belong to your father."
