Just finished building my compact planetary gearbox! I designed it from scratch in CAD for small, high-torque BLDC motors. It stands at just 4.5cm tall with standard bearings and features an 8:1 gear ratio. The spur gears are machined from 4041 alloy steel by PCBway

Bearings are great. With just two, my tiny 8:1 planetary gearbox becomes easily back-drivable.

Over a 5 year period you’d need to be avoiding at least a $275 monthly bill to justify 15k hardware.

Thats net present value equivalent to investing 15K at 10% annual return.
