Hospitality lobby overplayed its hand on VAT reduction
Cantillon is wrong & it’s easy to look back in hindsight
At every meeting & juncture a flat no was not mentioned to the industry representatives
Why was 11% discussed right up to the night before https://t.co/SGXIYDjSVt
A tsunami of small business closures will occur if the 13.5% VAT rate remains unchanged
Unless Government takes immediate steps to reduce the current 13.5% VAT rate applicable to the hospitality, tourism and retail sectors it can expect rolling closures
Interesting to hear Government spokespeople out this morning on local radio stations defending not supporting the Hospitality sector in this years #Budget2024
They spin is Hospitality got a reduced vat rate for years and substantial supports during the pandemic
I’m sorry but the Hospitality businesses in question were shut by Government order for nearly two years plus the reality is the 9% vat rate for food led businesses is the correct rate for survival of the sector
Budget 2023
“Many other local food-led businesses will not be able to withstand the VAT rate increase and are going to close over the coming months, unless a change occurs.” https://t.co/w41vRQebD4
🚨Budget 2023
Let’s see what the support package for small businesses in the Budget will be.
Government stating they are “well aware” of the difficulties facing small businesses.
🔴50% increase in the vat rate from 9% to 13.5%
🔴Increase in Energy costs
🔴Pension Auto enrollment
🔴Minimum wage increase to €12.70
🚨Time to deliver for small businesses
@adriancummins A terrible response from a politician I hold in high regard .
The 9% was not a “support “ but a reduction in VAT from a level now rising to the second highest in the EU.
🚨9% Vat
11 days until the 9% Vat rate is due to increase to 13.5% for Hospitality.
A 50% increase in the rate which will put Ireland 🇮🇪 to 2nd highest Hospitality rate after Denmark 🇩🇰 within the EU 🇪🇺
Consumers Lose❌
Small Businesses Lose ❌
Big win for the Government ✅
Appalled to confirm that many key elements of @mailonline coverage of this horrendous tragedy are false and indeed quotes fabricated.

After watching RTÉ appear before the Public Accounts Committee last week, retired solicitor John Mark Downey wrote a letter to the Editor, saying: "I cannot understand why any potential witness would co-operate with the PAC, based on what I saw." 🧵 1/6

“We’ve got a 62.5k sold-out capacity. We’re the 14th most valuable club in the world, the 7th in the PL. We’ve got the 3rd biggest stadium and a turnover of £152m – all those things stemmed from securing that stadium, that’s my proudest business achievement.”

@theclubscenepod do an unreal job, but rugby in ireland is thriving at club level, the “mainstream” rugby media would do well to have a look next season
