Magical tales and spellbinding adventurers 💫🫅
To celebrate Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's tremendous life and work, here's a clip from a rehearsal of his most beloved piece, Scheherazade, led by Principal Guest Conductor Marin Alsop 💃
Fun fact: Rimsky-Korsakov had no intention of giving Scheherazade any narrative titles for each movement, preferring the more classic titles of Prelude, Ballade, Adagio and Finale. It was in fact his peers that convinced him to add a little sparkle into his naming, leading to the four evocative titles we know today.

Not an orchestra a universe of sound.
György Ligeti’s Atmosphères transforms the way we experience music, creating a unique world where sounds blend and evolve.
A piece to enter, not just to listen to 🌌

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Osanna from the Mass in B minor BWV 232 (1749): a jubilant eight-part double chorus in D major, derived from earlier secular festive music and transformed into overwhelming sacred praise. The rapid exchange between the two choirs creates a brilliant concertante fugue, while the powerful unison acclamations give the movement its monumental grandeur. Few pages in Bach combine exuberance, contrapuntal mastery, and sheer sonic splendor so perfectly.
