Intrinsic motivation is really about strengths and interests. Students will have more "rigor", "perseverance, &"risk taking" when it is related to things they do well or interests them. Make those connections and intrinsic motivation is built in. The same is true of adults.
Principals and assistant principals are the difference makers for the difference makers when they support, encourage, appreciate, and celebrate their staff.
Not all students (or colleagues) will be ready to talk when going through something, but they will definitely remember you were there for them.

If you are worried about teacher retention, remember, if you want to keep the best teachers, treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals. Few want to leave a winning team!
Looking forward to gaining more insights into new principalship from @BerniMoreno this Wednesday!
If you are available, I would highly encourage registering and joining online💻
Powerful Ted Talk, well worth a listen to understand the power of position, of networks and of information #pdsl#leadership @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE https://t.co/LrKRMm5N7k
Leaders, when we get the little things right, everything works better. Like greeting staff and students each morning. Visiting classes, celebrating small successes, spending time in the hall, cafeteria, bus duty. The little things, daily things make a big difference in culture.
As teachers we are good at finding the strengths our students have and helping them to develop it, as leaders we must learn to find the strengths our colleagues have and do the same #pdsl#leadership @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE
We were only discussing this during the week, students never receive feedback on standardised testing here, surely feedback is essential for improving learning! #pdsl#leadership @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE
Besides the many issues with standardized testing. Most students have no idea what they missed on the tests and teachers don't either. And by time they get results students have moved on to next grade. So how is this really important data?
The way we look at people can determine how we react with them, love this idea of seeing people in a positive light instead @pdsl@leadership @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE
How often have we come across this scene on our travels? Leading from behind gives him the best view of his flock. Great leadership style. Food for thought on the day we celebrate our shepherd St Patrick 🍀 #pdsl#leadership @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE
Teachers, your students may not remember everything about your class, but they will remember that you cared, showed grace, made them feel valued, and encouraged them to be their best. They will remember that forever.
