Sam Presti official statement on Russell Westbrook’s retirement:

“Russell Westbrook is the ultimate competitor.

His internal belief and unbridled fearlessness helped establish the foundation of our organization from day one in 2008 and he elevated the confidence and inspired our community in every year thereafter.

Russell will be as successful in his life after basketball as he was during his career because his qualities and gifts transfer. His impact on our community is still felt today, and he is beloved for his devotion as much as his talent.

He built a Hall of Fame career not by making statements or simply by breaking records, he did it by showing us all the power of asking one simple question: Why Not?”

[J.E. Skeets @jeskeets]

I’ve said this before, but I think Russell Westbrook’s legacy will age tremendously with time. The stats, the accolades, the highlights, the "me against the world" mentality, all of it. Russ was truly one-of-one. Congrats on a legendary career. 🙌

[SportsCenter @SportsCenter]

Thank you for all the memories, Russ.

Congrats on a Hall of Fame career ❤️

Sometimes you don’t even know when you’ve already watched the end.

You had to be there. And now it’s over.

[Robin Lopez @rolopez42]

Biggest issue: If you're being drafted, people are saying "we want you around for 4 years" & I can't imagine anybody wants Enes Kanter or Royce White around them for even 4 minutes.

We've seen this illustrated whenever Enes is near Turkey or Royce comes close to logic/reality.

[Andrew Schlecht @AndrewKSchlecht]

I think getting 3 second round picks and not taking salary back is good business…. But….

This is the first non-basketball move of the Shai/Dub/Chet era. This move doesn’t clear space for a first round pick and it certainly doesn’t make the team better.

They avoid the 2nd apron, but I don’t think the Thunder as contenders should be that concerned about the 2nd apron.

The Thunder will still be great and maybe even still favorites in the West, it’s just disappointing the owners aren’t willing to spend on a historic Thunder roster

[Brandon Rahbar @BrandonRahbar]

Lu Dort splashing 3 3 pointers in 2 minutes in Game 5 vs Denver was one of the most important moments in OKC’s 2025 championship run.

A title swinging stretch of shotmaking from one of the league’s best defenders.

[Brandon Rahbar @BrandonRahbar]

Lu Dort is an all world defender.

Great locker room and team culture builder.

Turned himself into a 3 point shooter.

An undrafted player who became a starter on an NBA championship team.

OKC doesn’t win the 2025 title without Dort.

A Thunder legend who will always be beloved in OKC.

Wishing him all the best in Atlanta.

Once again Wemby gets away with whatever he wants

[TJ Eckert @TJEckertKJRH]

I, for one, very much look forward to NBA Twitter and podcasters breaking down Wemby falling for no reason on the most important shot of the season.
