Access to food is a human right, & for some children in 🏴, a hot school meal may be their only meal of the day. This #ChallengePovertyWeek, we restate our call on @scotgov to expand free school meals to all primary school children urgently.

Today some of our policy team have been at @AberlourCCT#ChallengePovertyWeek event on Child Poverty and Debt.
Great to discuss the need for a fresh approach to tackling public debt in Scotland - which is a huge issue affecting women experiencing domestic abuse.
Abusers use coerced debt with public bodies as a means to control, isolate and constrain women and children - pushing them into poverty and limiting their options for separating and rebuilding.
Women's poverty is children's poverty and children's poverty will not end without a nw approach to Scottish public debt collection.

Our Partners in Change work with Aberlour has shone a light on the need to relieve low-income households of the debt burden associated with Council Tax and related payments.
It has also demonstrated an impactful way of working with councils across Tayside to achieve this.
Lynne O'Brien, chief officer at @AberlourCCT, introducing the day's event:
"We are the people who will lift children out of the pits of despair."
"We are the change makers."

If @JohnSwinney and @Keir_Starmer are truly committed to ending child poverty they must be equally committed to tackling public debt. This #CPW24 we need both UK Gov and @ScotGov to work together to tackle the debt crisis to enable children across the UK to thrive.
@JimMcCormick16 @RobertsonTrust We’re now hearing from @PerthandKinross & @PerthCAB about how partnership working has helped to think differently about supporting families and responding to what they say they need to alleviate financial hardship, including tackling public debt and harmful debt recovery #CPW24
@JimMcCormick16 @RobertsonTrust Our Assistant Director, Heather Kelly, shares the findings from our Tayside . Debt Relief Pilot supporting families in poverty with unmanageable debt. She highlights that 75% of the debt owed by families is public debt. #CPW24#ChallengePoverty
@JimMcCormick16 @RobertsonTrust@PerthandKinross@PerthCAB@DundeeCouncil Council tax arrears are the single biggest type of public debt in Scotland and often results in the quickest enforcement and debt recovery action by councils. Myles Fitt from @CitAdviceScot tells us about the scale of council tax arrears across Scotland.
