I often think about the parallels of total synthesis and the many disappearing crafts around the world (e.g., bespoke tailoring, batik tulis, Indian Rogan painting), including being abandoned for alternatives with faster gratification, and it makes me sad https://t.co/vdrQ2G79h5
@BrimbleM
Had so much fun at the biochemical/chemical science fair! She did great helping with the experiments. She kept her hat on all day at the zoo except when we were in the shade.First time ever❤️ plus, I bragged about you a bit 😉 and one guy pulled you up, right then and there!
#Rettsyndrome #Daybue @AcadiaPharma
Super proud of Dr Jamie-Lee Rahiri @AucklandUni @FMHS_UoA winner of 2025 @LOrealAUNZ women of science award for NZ following in footsteps of @dr_matire nice haka from her husband
Wonderful to see organic chemistry @LOrealAUNZ #Maisonloreal beautiful event tonight. Thanks for supporting women in science through L’Oreal UNESCO #FWIS programme
@PCarioli A small, early-stage Australian biotech, which was worth only a few million dollars, has managed to launch a U.S. Phase 3 trial all on its own!!!!! Thanks to the success of NNZ-2566 that generated cash for them, sure, but how many actually pull that off??? Impressive!!!
More good funding news! We’ve been awarded a NIH UG3 grant with the Tuveson Lab for a project combining click chemistry + natural products to block KLK6 and prevent early pancreatic cancer. Grateful to NIH and all collaborators pushing this forward.
We enjoyed an amazing BBQ outing yesterday at Strathcona Lookout Park in Deep Cove! The day was filled with fun on the water in paddle boards and canoes (thanks Rob!) along side some competitive spike ball games in the park :) #chemtwitter#teambonding
It was such a pleasure to meet up with @BrimbleM and @BrimbleMark at @AcadiaPharma I learned more about the development of Trofinetide, which I hardly thought possible! Margaret is a true inspiration. Thank you to Acadia for the invite.
Enjoyed talking @AcadiaPharma about the medicinal chemistry behind the discovery of the FDA approved drug NNZ2566/trofinetide/Daybue to treat Rett Syndrome. The mosaic in the picture comprises photos of the patients on Rett Syndrome trials. @Neuren@AucklandUni@melindacapecod
Di was a wonderful supporter & advocate for women in science. She supported me when I travelled to Paris for the L’Oreal-UNESCO women in science laureate awards. She continued to mentor me and many other scientists with empathy &understanding of the enormous challenges. RIP
Saddened that Di McCarthy has passed away. she was my deputy dean with us was medical dean then CE of the Royal Society of NZ - a real enthusiast for science and a great friend. The last year has been very difficult for her but it is a great loss.
Check out the first total synthesis of brevianamide S. Congratulations Adam and the whole team! Spoiler: We didn't follow a biomimetic approach...we opted for a more flexible three-component coupling strategy. https://t.co/IQ7B63P8ZD
