While our ultimate dream will not be realized, Pat Fitzgerald has a job, and Michael Schill and Derrick Gragg do not. What does that tell you? #GoGreen#GoFitz
Don’t ever forget that, just like the Walter Athletics Center, the new Ryan Field doesn’t exist without @coachfitz51. Pat Ryan is the only more impactful figure in the history of Northwestern Athletics when you consider what Fitz did as both a player and coach.
I’m among the first to criticize many things at NU, but this is an ignorant take. Stadium was NEVER going to open with SD St. Question was always Colorado or Penn St. Stand-alone game on nat’l TV against a blue blood on 100th anniversary of 1st game at Dyche is pretty damn good.
"Northwestern will certainly attempt to spin the situation into a positive when it inevitably announces that the New Ryan Field is behind schedule on Tuesday. But make no mistake — this roadblock represents nothing other than a complete failure."

Is Northwestern still including the Ryan Field rendering with Pat Fitzgerald, now the head coach at Michigan State, on the video board in their promotional materials in the year 2026?
You bet, check :27
@JoshPateCFB Since his hiring made MSU #1 on your “who might be the next Indiana without really being the next Indiana” list, you’ve got to go to East Lansing and chat with @coachfitz51.
@shay_072 I hear you. Chicago being centrally located for many B1G fans on top of being the most attractive conference get-away, and the Cats being seen as a likely win, all play into that. But 3,000 visitors can take over WR. Wait til 20,000+ take over RF. It’s going to be depressing.
SCOOP: The University of Michigan will name its new president this week, I’m told. There will be a missive sent out on Sunday and the announcement could be made as early as Monday.
This person is coming from a school with athletic pedigree. Expected start date is in July.
I’m told Pat Fitzgerald has heavily emphasized a “return to Spartan football” in his first weeks with the program.
He has told staff there will be an enforced expectation of toughness and an embracing of what MSU’s identity was at the program’s peak.
One staffer put it best:
“The chip-on-our-shoulder is back, and that’s because of (Fitzgerald).
He knows what this place was. He knows people don’t think (MSU) can get back there, that he can’t adapt.
He is fired up - like, at an almost alarming level.
He wants to prove everyone wrong and shove it up their ass.”
@ESPNRittenberg The smartest thing Braun has said since falling up into the position. He now has 2 great coordinators, and they’re adding more high quality position coaches. Stay out of their way. Nice guy Braun can do the media and leave the coaching and developing to the B1G qualified pros.
@insidenu This list is highly inconsistent with the tweet beneath it. If they’re not shooting higher and ready to spend more than those names, why hire Kelly?
I like what Northwestern is doing. You need strong coordinators and position coaches when you have a head coach who is a nice guy but not B1G caliber. Let Braun do the press conferences, and let the others with more experience and talent recruit and develop.
Source: Northwestern is set to hire Jerry Neuheisel as quarterbacks coach. Neuheisel is a former Chip Kelly assistant at UCLA, who remained with the Bruins under DeShaun Foster and became the team's offensive play-caller after Tino Sunseri stepped away this fall.
