Working together for a more resilient future ๐ง
We were proud to attend Weathering It Together: Climate Resilience in the West of England, which brought together 250 people from community groups and organisations across the region.
We spoke about the work we're doing to strengthen water resilience and help safeguard supplies for the future, as well as sharing practical ways we can all use water more wisely at home.
Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation.
๐ Talking can make a difference
Weโre proud to have supported @SomewhereSom in the creation of Even Strong Men Seek Help, a powerful short film encouraging conversations about menโs mental health and suicide prevention.
Filmed at Cheddar Reservoir, the film highlights how difficult it can be to recognise when someone is struggling, even when they appear to be coping.
Alongside the film, the charity is continuing its work to distribute 40,000 emergency mental health cards across Somerset, helping more people access support when they need it.

We've had some rain, but we're still in drought. Recent rainfall has been welcome, but after months of dry weather it takes much more than a few wet days for water resources to recover. Before rain can replenish rivers, reservoirs and groundwater sources, much of it is absorbed by dry soils that have lost moisture over the summer.
That's why steady, sustained rainfall over weeks and months is far more effective than short bursts of heavy rain. While river levels may rise quickly after rainfall, it takes much longer for the wider water environment and water resources to recover.
In the video below, our Senior Water Resources Partner, Paul, explains more ๐

๐ Today is World Rivers Day, a chance to celebrate the rivers that are so important to our region.
From providing habitats for wildlife to supporting the water cycle we all rely on, healthy rivers benefit both people and nature. That's why we're working with farmers, landowners and environmental partners to help protect and improve river catchments across our region through our Upstream Thinking programme.
Hear from Izzy in our Natural Resources team as she explains more in the video below. ๐ฟ
Our rivers play a vital role in supplying water to our homes, supporting wildlife and helping our environment thrive.
After one of the hottest and driest summers on record, rivers, reservoirs and groundwater across the region need time to recover. While recent rainfall is welcome, restoring these precious water resources is a gradual process.
As Carolyn Cadman, our Chief Sustainability and Natural Resources Officer, explains, healthy rivers help improve water quality, support wildlife and retain more water in the landscape during dry periods. That's why we're continuing to carefully manage water resources, reduce leakage and invest in long-term resilience.
We know our customers care about the environment as much as we do. By working together and using water wisely, we can help protect our rivers, support nature and safeguard water resources for future generations. ๐ง๐ฟ
