“Greatness” is not a word I’d ever use to describe a slave owner.
But it’s easy to have these cold, totally theoretical conversations when the slaves in question were not your ancestors.
It’s easy to talk this way when the impacts of chattel slavery, a failed Reconstruction, Jim Crow, redlining & convict leasing don’t manifest in your actual life because you’re Kenyan/white rather than #ADOS.
American Descendants of Slavery know what we lost when our family was ran off farms. When our ancestors had their labor stolen. We listen to elders speak on how the KKK burned crosses in their yards. And we listen as inheritors of that legacy of plunder—that began with slavery—not just as analytical bystanders or disinterested spectators.
Lineage really does matter.
If this energy crisis from the #StraitofHormuz evolves on its current path. And the #iranwar leads to American soldiers on the ground.
The #NBA won’t matter.
The #NFL won’t matter.
Michael B Jordan winning an Oscar won’t matter.
@Tyrese#versuz Tank won’t matter.
Jay Z reunion concert won’t matter.
Brunch with your girlfriends won’t matter.
Sports Gambling sold by @druski and @JoeBudden won’t matter.
All of sudden the only thing that will matter is do you have ENOUGH sense to mentally survive. And if the above was your social mental space you may not.
We have historical proof of when businesses are failing, they put a Black woman in charge and put the blame on her when it falls to the ground.
I’m not into propping up Kamala and giving her a failing empire. I’m not into it at all.
There’s evidence and data to back me up.
Share this one across the internet. Every Black person should share it on their timeline. It’s that important. Look at the shift in wealth by race from 2022 Q3 to 2023 Q4.
Note: Both are from the same federal reserve survey of consumer finances released quarterly. ‼️‼️‼️‼️
When discussing racism & slavery, too many #ADOS react with “I’m not a victim!”
Not only is that a lie, but buried inside that lie is the belief that victims can’t become victors & victimized groups can’t overcome their oppression.
Every hero has a villain who s/he eventually defeats. That’s *how* they become our hero—by fighting against the odds—not by denying their reality.
Having been victimized doesn’t render you a permanent victim. Only your unwillingness to fight renders you defeated.
I don’t think economically poor #ADOS understand that the people who supposedly represent them in media & politics are making $30k a speech, swirling Prosecco at hip hop anniversaries, & bragging about their jewelry.
It’s time to retake your voice and your power.
