An Estonian wild about a few (un)related things: policy, tech, 18th-century literature & Siamese cats. Foreign relations coordinator @EstonianGovt. 🇪🇪🇪🇺
May 1945 did not mark the end of the war for Estonia, and these so-called "liberators" were, in fact, occupiers.
The USSR used military force to occupy our land and suppress our attempts to restore independence.

Diplomats are story tellers. The events we host, the art we display, the architecture of our embassies, and even the food we serve - help tell a story.
The story 🇷🇺 is telling with this menu is clear.
Our response must be equally clear: the age of empire is over.

Honoured to be nominated as the candidate for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Your trust means a lot.
We must continue working together to ensure Europe is an effective global partner to keep our citizens free, safe and prosperous.
Signed a bilateral agreement on security co-operation with @ZelenskyyUa today in Brussels.
The fight for Ukraine’s freedom is a fight for freedom in Europe and for a world where might doesn't make right.
Ukraine must win, and with the long-term help of the free world it will.
“You got to lose a genocidal war. Because if you win it you get reassured that this is the way the world works.”
Timothy Snyder puts it simply why Russia has to lose the war in Ukraine and why it doesn’t really matter what a defeated Russia would look like.
An honour to speak at #MatthiaeMahl.
Thirty years ago in this hall, our President Meri warned about wishful thinking towards Russia and its expansionist ideology.
What if we had listened back then? 1/
Today, I addressed the Estonian parliament to thank Estonia for standing on the side of freedom.
On February 24, 2022, the Russian leadership tried to restore their empire, whether Russian, Soviet, or hybrid.
But we didn’t fail. Our people. Our friends. The entire free world.🧵
Victoria Amelina campaigned for a Special Tribunal on russian aggression - until she was killed by a russian missile. But her idea did not die. Momentum is growing for a #SpecialTribunalNow.
@SofieHagen@drjuliashaw Thank you to you both and your whole team for such an amazing podcast! For several years Thursdays have felt a bit like a mini-birthday - because listening to Bad People has really been like a gift. Can’t wait to see/listen/read what you do next.
In my @POLITICOEurope op-ed, I argue why with #EUCO and NATO’s Vilnius Summit just ahead, the time to lift our defence up to match the demands of the new security reality is now — because later may be too late.

It's official: #Estonia has legalised marriage equality. We join other Nordic nations with this historic decision.

My message at #TheSydneyDialogue by @ASPI_org:
Russian aggression is a reminder that we actively need to enforce a world where rules still apply. Tech is part of this struggle.
We must ensure impunity does not prevail in any sphere – cyberspace included.
Hey 🇫🇮 friends.
No more bad takes tonight. Just want to say, welcome to our alliance.
You can’t quite see us across the gulf & over the horizon, but we’re raising a toast to you.
(Here’s the 🇪🇪 PM’s office right now, for example).
It’s great to get the band back together.
