Media literacy lesson: headlines!
Headlines are kind of like Bible verses. Out of context, you can usually find one to fit within your theology or the narrative you want to paint. But you SHOULD keep them in context.
For example…🧵
Hey everyone!
There’s always exciting developments in AI and journalism, and I want to share five things I’ve seen, used, or heard in the past few weeks while living in the Bay Area this month.

@AOC Wow! Despite the strong start, it was a rough run for me. A last minute troop praising in the closing remarks finally doing it for me!
Shoutout to @Tallbrighty for the fun confetti. My favorite easter egg is once you get bingo you can click to sprout more!
Looks like we're getting our first winners in for #politicobingo! I had a good start but unfortunately I was sitting on one "@aoc" away for a bit. (Also I guess as one of the creators, folks would be suspicious).

@macloo You’d be surprised though, when this happens to me and I pass the vague error message back into ChatGPT, it usually gives me the right answer within one or two messages.
Thanks for all the great sessions, demos, and conversations #NICAR23 ! If anyone missed our Intro to Web Dev session (or is just early on in their journey), here’s the cheat sheet I made for some common syntax and vocabulary.
There’s still time to pre-register for Introduction To Web Development at #NICAR23, taught by @carla_astudi, @brizandrew and @NaelShiab. This daylong crash course for beginners will give you the confidence you need to start building things for the web. https://t.co/QoNmTuXQuX
@blakehounshell I’m sure I was but one of 10 other meetings he had that day, but nevertheless he came with his brilliance pointed at the task at hand. His questions and comments about the platform I had build was a foundational bedrock for the success it is today. Thank you, Blake.
In the interest of his legacy I thought I’d share a personal (but minor) footnote in the career of @blakehounshell. You won’t see his name on any bylines, but Blake was one of the editorial masterminds behind Congress Minutes.

Just now in a meeting...
Me: Can we fetch here? Is there fetch in scope or will it just return undefined?
@Tallbrighty (underneath his breath): Andrew, stop trying to make "fetch" happen.
@just_rashida: 👏👏👏
Love that my team is a Venn Diagram of developer + Mean Girls.
Most of that system was @Tallbrighty's first project after joining the team, and he knocked it out of the park! The new messages on the pages themselves are the handiwork of @just_rashida and they look gorgeous.
Can't wait to see what the future of live chat holds!
It is bittersweet to see my first @politico election where I was not directly coding things, but could NOT be prouder of the amazing work of my former team!
And quite an honor to have an editor credit alongside my last two bosses @andrewmcgill & @mazet

@politico@andrewmcgill@mazet@just_rashida@Tallbrighty Just for a quick sneak peak under the hood, we're trying a few new toys for our live updates this year. Still using Slack of course like the old days, but we've finally replaced the ORIGINAL system (by @JonRMcClure).
