Preparing to collaborate with a robot across the sea...

As I began to explore a small series of portraits for @tender_art 'Reflections' exhibition (curated by @ajberni ) I held in my mind the fact that this is a collaboration. These portraits were to be painted by a dear robot painter in NYC with @artmatrco far away from my physical self, and I may never see them irl. Such a funny feeling of longing, and surrender, perhaps something I find with any collab.

This unique process of making, informed my choices regarding composition and the evident close-up nature of these portraits. I wondered what would get the best results from a robot still learning painting skills & tricks?

So I decided to embrace this collaboration to really see what was possible regarding texture, details, patterning, so it seemed necessary to close in on the subject, meet each other's gaze in a personal way.

Close up, we can see all the marks of life across these faces, and our imperfections, rendered experimentally through new tools, are exposed and vulnerable, and we begin to meet the beauty of each other here.
