Over the next 3-5 years we’re likely going to see a wave of real estate private equity executives in their mid-40s to late 50s quietly walk away from the industry.

Many have built serious wealth via carried interest over a couple of decades as interest rates dropped and cap rates compressed.

For the real estate funds that rely on the macro environment and have raised money over the last 5 years, those execs are realizing they may not have any carry income coming - so why stay?

Many have made over $50M, and it makes no sense to keep grinding for a $1M salary that's close to half of that after taxes.

Unless rates start diving again, they are better off sailing off into the sunset and retire early.

No reason to keep grinding for nothing.
