TV Go Home (1999-2001) Charlie Brooker's TV listings satire has pretty much vanished from the web now, but for a while it was a word of mouth online phenomenon.
Carefully made spoof TV listings of bleakly funny or surreal TV shows showed where the media world was heading at the end of the Nineties: cruel, crude, self indulgent and desperate for viewers. Along with Brass Eye and Attention Scum, TV Go Home was a hellish distorting mirror for British mass culture - the people who made it and the people who consumed it.
Channel 4 brought it to the small screen a couple of times: there was a TV Go Home six part series in 2001 and obnoxious wannabe media edgelord Nathan Barley had his own show in 2005. There was also a book of the website published in 2001 by Fourth Estate in 2001.
I've said it before, but we are not really archiving much online culture from Web 1.0 and that's going to be a big problem at some point. Old sites are vanishing, blogs are disappearing and personal web pages are going dark. We're relying on volunteer projects to capture what they can, but there's no guarantee these will keep going. There's already more bot traffic online than human traffic and AI content is slowly filling up the online space. Retaining even a fraction of the WWW world we built, and the culture that went with it, is quite a challenge.
Startling how much better Sky Sports football production is without the egos of Neville and Carragher involved. Players a lot more comfortable in post-match interviews without the risk of ridicule.
Postecoglou is one of the worst Premier League managers of all time. Spurs fans: cry all you like about Levy but Spurs haven't finished lower than 10th since 2007. What's different this year?
@britishairways worst customer service/app in the travel industry by mile. Cancel flight, offer new ones but site crashes every time you confirm. Chat agents permanently offline. Just a joke.
Grew up watching BBC Sport but their live coverage this summer - Euro 24 and Olympics - has been abysmal. The latter, frankly embarrassing. Whole thing needs an overhaul.
