@sorenable I know just how you feel -- things like that touch me deeply. Btw, you might want to check out Whitehead and Rendall's The Cultural Lives of Whales and Dolphins.
A couple of months ago I announced I was going to take a break from Twitter, for my mental health. I didn't manage to then, but now I absolutely must. I will miss those of you I follow, and hope you'll be around when I get back. /2
Or I'll see how the rivals to Twitter are shaking out. I've had it with E.M. (his extra grotesque toadying to the Communist Party of China is particularly disgusting). But as long as most of you are here, I'll stay. /3
@ItsEmilyKaty Things have gotten increasingly crappy over the last few weeks--scary. As part of an attempt to deal with this, I'm leaving Twitter for a while. This is a great idea, and I look forward to it when I get back. #NotAloneTalk
@FromPhDtoLife It's not very helpful on its own: "The dedication expresses my single greatest debt." ["To Alison: siquid adhuc ego sum, muneris omne tui est." That's Ovid, Tristia 1.6.6 ("If there is anything of me left, it is all your gift.")]
@DrDavidVernon 6 is mine, which I think is in many ways the best example of his mature style: so pure and minimal. Karajan on EMI and Vanska in Minnesota are my favourite performances.
