No surprise here, great to see some official research back what we have been doing in Iceland for the past 6 years. Making physical activity a part of structured esports training from an early age. It is crucial to build PA into the culture of gaming and esports.
New citation of our #esports research:
"Physical Activity & Self-Determination towards Exercise among Esports Athletes"
Congrats @motchhh @Craigmcnulty0 @DylanPoulus

@DrSethJenny@Oli_Leis@DrMikeTrotter Growing pains for sure, but underlines how highly parents value the physical aspect. We at the ECA have taken over operations of 2 clubs that experienced a sharp decline in players + coaching standards and they have now grown ~300% in 6 months through parent word of mouth.
@DrSethJenny@Oli_Leis@DrMikeTrotter Word of mouth about the positive benefits of structured esports training has been the primary driver in this. In the past 2 years, support for new coaches has not been great and the standards have dropped (including the amount of PA) resulting immediately in less parental support
@DrSethJenny I think the big problem in making either of these models work is critical participation and revenue/sustainability and I don't believe we will get there if we don't actively promote a culture of growth and skill building to young gamers before they become jaded from ranked grind.
@DrSethJenny Hence hands vs feet 😅 I believe we have opportunities to start teaching the right work ethic and building skill before a player ever touches a ranked game. This can be done in non traditional esports titles with the right focus, I'll email you a video with an example.
