JCB's 'world first' £100 million hydrogen combustion engine programme has secured landmark rulings from licensing authorities, allowing it to be used commercially in machines.
Eleven licensing authorities have given permission for JCB’s hydrogen engine to be sold across Europe – with authorities in other countries set to follow suit with certification in 2025.
JCB is the first construction equipment company to develop a fully-functioning combustion engine fuelled by hydrogen. For over three years, a 150-strong team has been employed on the programme and more than 130 evaluation engines have already been built. #UKmfg
