“Backrooms” is about the Gen Z experience of living amid the cultural detritus of the 1990s, faded photocopies of a decade that - at least aesthetically - never ended.
The uncanny reality of a 20-year-old witnessing Oasis reunions, “Frasier” revivals, “What’s Goin’ On?” memes.
There's a genuine phenomenon in Eastern Europe (and I imagine elsewhere ITW) where LGBT kids are more likely to be fluent in English than their straight peers, as they find community online in English speaking circles and learn the language through that.
I think Retold looks dope, but I’ll never be able to get behind the miserly shortsighted practice of holding beloved series hostage via remakes.
B-Mask sums up my thoughts pretty well in his Medievil remake video essay:
I keep thinking about Backrooms, that it’s a movie made by someone young now, about people being trapped in and forced to wander and sift through the banal and garish detritus of the late 20th century, warped and monstrous things being built from flimsy memories of that era
Full Night Marsh Observatory run
The process:
1. Get 7 UESC Certs
2. Find an Observatory Labs key (you can find these in caches revealed by UESC towers, Anomalous Drone, HVT, any map event)
3. Go to Complex and use 7 Certs on the blast door on either side
4. Defeat the UESC waves and take the elevator up
5. Go to the top floor and interact with the terminal. This will enable green shootable buttons with a blue border, much like the ones in Cryo. First room requires 3.
6. Go through the now-open blast door, repeat the process. Second room requires 4.
7. Go through the now-open blast door, repeat the process. Third and final room requires 5.
8. Go to the side room on the right, and use the Observatory key.
9. Kill the UESC that spawn, they will eventually enable shootable buttons. Shoot them.
10. Repeat this process until the Warden spawns, then kill it.
11. Once the Warden is dead and all buttons have been shot, proceed through the middle room that is now open, and enjoy the loot.
There are other rooms you can unlock by either shooting the red border buttons you come across throughout, and/or by having a LIDAR scope and shooting the buttons in the last room in the order they're written when seen through the LIDAR scope.
Darkness falls on the tragic tale of "Albaz" and "Ecclesia"... but just what is this creature that appears in front of him? 💔...
