The way my mind works...
Brain went to @tarastrong when I learned the sparkle of diamond is called #Cherenkov_radiation.

Light travels slower through diamond, so when it hits the crystal it creates a 'sonic boom' of sorts, resulting in a spark of light.

I know in the Apollo footage on the surface of the moon, the surface was so bright, it washed out the stars.
Was it the same through the visors?
