@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV hutson had better production, better underlying, and was younger and the time of signing. also, young players who are that good that young turn out much more often than not.
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV I understand that totally, but a team wouldn’t overpay for a player they don’t think the overpay is worth it for, that’s just bad money management.
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV market value isn’t value based on production for an individual player, it’s based on production compared to others with similar situations, the “market” sets the “value)”. Hughes signed for 9 and Hutson had better production and took less, that’s a discount.
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV plus I think the whole “offer sheets need to be higher than value” is a little wrong too, if a team doesn’t think Carlsson is worth that money they wouldn’t pay him, the whole sport is about money and you don’t pay players 18m if you don’t think they’ll live up to it.
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV the demidov contract specifically isn’t a crazy steal in my opinion, it’s still a discount tho, the Hutson one was a big discount imo. I’m just saying that based on market value/rising cap and how every contract is so high now, these are super nice value. it’s not propaganda lmao
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV negotiations just don’t work that way though, he took less based on what we all know he’s going to be. if twitter users like us know its going to be a steal, agents, players, gms, all know it too.
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV all these teams have those analytical models too, they know that comparing the situation demidov is in to other players throughout history, his value is much higher than the contract he just signed.
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV you’re acting like all superstars come in the league with 100 points. players like kucherov, robertson, etc had either worse or similar production as demidov. since demidov accomplished what he did at 20, it’s not even a bet, it’s basically guaranteed he’ll be a >$9m value player
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV hutson and demidov both proved that they were next level in their elcs though, they both immediately had elite level underlying numbers.
@yolo_pinyato@domluszczyszyn how do you properly isolate a players impact if it’s not assigning credit based on xG results? just curious because I’ve seen your model around and I’m pretty interested in it.
@yolo_pinyato@domluszczyszyn how does your model rate carlsson good defensively when many other models like doms, jfresh, hockeyviz rate him either poor or average defensively?
@AU5T0N@1VANDEMIDOV if you are a young promising player and you take your current value it is a steal. every player/agent knows that for a young player you ask for a contract that fits their value throughout the contract, not the current value.
Bowen Byram, extended 6x$12.5M by CHI, is an offensive defenceman with a roving, aggressive game built on carrying the puck up-ice and activating in the o-zone. Great shot and ability to create for himself, but a fair question how much he can legitimately drive play.
