iran won. not yesterday. it won when it closed the strait of hormuz after we attacked. something they refused to do through decades of us sanctions and israeli and american meddling. they were willing to do diplomacy the entire time. people should stop demanding more war.
I’m unsurprised that the National Deaf Children’s society has come out against the ban. Indeed, I was expecting strong objections from disability organisations.
I have seen firsthand the benefit of social media for deaf youth in terms of engagement with the wider Deaf community internationally and immersion in Deaf culture, in addition to availing of accessible educational resources available on social media apps.
None of this negates the urgent problems that exist on social media, it is to say that a wholesale ban is not the answer.
that’s the question isn’t it. what WILL she do? there are no youth clubs for her to attend. food, cinema tickets, any sort of third space activity is all too expensive. their parents are underpaid, saturday jobs don’t exist any more, children have truly been abandoned by the govt
Yeonjun grew up alone as a only child. He has mentioned wanting a sibling and he really adores kids and babies. My heart hurts to see antis calling him p3do & disgusting names over sick narratives. This man deserves the biggest apology
'I, a monolingual Westerner, and uncomfortable due to a linguistic and cultural barrier I've never been forced to confront before and, because I'm too emotionally unintelligent to investigate this further, I will make this everyone else's problem and force them to cater to me.'
“he is fluent in english” is such a stupid thing to say😭😭 i’m an english major but if an english word has a different infliction and meaning in my native language then i will be using it accordingly while speaking said native language… ++
This is like the K-pop version of that controversy about the Dalai Lama. There are actually still cultural differences in the world! Humanity is not quite the hivemind from Pluribus yet!
hello, we have seen a clip of YJ going around and we wanted to explain the nuance of the word “sexy”. it’s understandable as to why people feel uncomfortable by it because to many of us, the word “sexy” carries a sexual undertone. however, the word “sexy” in korea carries a significantly less sexual undertone and is rather used as calling someone attractive, handsome and/or cool. we would never defend something that is wholeheartedly weird. we won’t bash those who feel uncomfortable because again, most people aren’t aware that the term carries different undertones.
hm no, the correct analogy here would be getting very rich while constantly promising to cure cancer while never actually curing it, then using your wealth to ensure a political outcome in which vastly more people will die of cancer than might have died otherwise
Ive talked about how gothic horror is a fear of the remains of a now dead decadence of the past, ie haunted castles or old haunted mansions. Our modern version of this is evidently empty shopping malls and anamatronic pizzaria arcades
There’s a part in the book White Noise where the characters talk about losing their identity once they’ve aged out of being the primary demo for advertisements and marketing.I think about that every time I see nostalgia porn videos because they’re always just ads for old products
A nazi becoming the first trillionaire off taxpayer subsidies mergers and apartheid mine inheritance isn't an anomaly. It's showing you what the system rewards.
Capitalism is a death cult
Tip Toe starts several threads brilliantly but then tears them up, forcing a shock-value ending that feels lurid, not illuminating. Oh, and the fucking where-are-they-now cards.
It's a real mix of RTD's best qualities and worst habits.
Honestly, i don't understand this economy when nursing homes are so expensive they bankrupt our grandparents but nursing home aides need to use food banks.
daycare is so expensive it eats up one parent's entire paycheck and yet daycare providers only make $10/hr and need second jobs.
college costs hundreds of thousands of dollars and puts students into debt for life and yet we have thousands of professors living in their cars.
everything we need is astronomically expensive and yet almost none of the money we pay is going towards the people actually doing the work and providing the services.
I agree with this. Wow, people responding are really attached to the noclipping part of the concept.
I think there are two Backrooms:
Getting gradually lost in a senseless, uncanny labyrinth and this is your life now
VS
A fun haunted-house pastiche of late-capitalist detritus
I'm ngl I think finding the backrooms on the other side of a mundane door would be much scarier than going through a- sorry, "noclipping" through a magical wall
Crazy that this is getting barely any coverage. This year’s European Press Prize was just awarded to an investigative report by the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. It is entitled “What the Wounds Tell” and in it the journalists Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra document the cases of 114 children in Gaza under the age of 15 who were struck by a single bullet to the head or chest. Almost all of them died or were left severely disabled. They chose to document only the cases of boys and girls under the age of 15 (though often much younger: aged 3, 4 or 7) because these are children who can be immediately identified as such. “A single bullet in these parts of the body is a clear indication that these children were deliberately targeted“, the two journalists write.
