If anyone still thinks Police Scotland is a serious organisation, here is a neat little case study in public-sector absurdity.

A building is repeatedly targeted by vandals.

They break in.
They kick out security screens.
They set fires.
Police and fire service apparently attend.
Neighbours quite reasonably complain.

I report incidents to Police Scotland. To my knowledge, they do not attend when the actual crimes are being reported.

Then I receive correspondence yesterday saying Police Scotland are among those complaining about the state of the building, and that if it is not secured after further break-ins, I may be pursued for the costs.

So the operational model appears to be:
Ignore the crime.
Complain about the consequences.
Let the council threaten the owner.
Send the bill to the person who reported it.
Leave the vandals to continue.

I have already instructed and paid contractors to re-secure the site. But there is a bigger issue here.

When repeated break-ins and fire-raising are treated as the owner’s maintenance problem rather than criminal conduct requiring an effective police response, something is badly broken.

This is not competence.

It is failure management.
