In 1980, Record Breakers delved into a story spanning six generations as Roy Castle met the only known great-great-great-grandmother in the UK - Mrs Violet Lewis, from Southampton (born on 12 June, 1885).

Client #C334 has commissioned us to compile a #familyhistory file for his mother's family, as a 91st birthday present in arrears. We had a great Zoom call with them both recently, recording her childhood memories etc. #oralhistory

Client #C333 commissioned us to look into his grandfather's origins, for his dad's 70th birthday. This was a smaller version of the #familyhistory files we offer, only focused on just one ancestor. This was another #Jewish family from #Glasgow - we've had a few of them recently!

Another family of ancestors ran the Fir Tree Inn in #MalvernLink, #Worcestershire, & we worked with info from a cousin to help resolve an #illegitimacy mystery from the 1840s. Other ancestors were travelling showpeople & even a town crier! Interesting bunch! #familyhistory #C332

Client #C332 asked us to compile a full #familyhistory file for her brother's 60th birthday. She was able to provide plenty of information to start with, including legends that they might be descended from the founder of Downing Street and from ex-PM William Gladstone!

Client #C331 was born in 1970 & knew the man who raised her wasn't her father. She had a good idea who was: a certain @RoyalAirForce serviceman who had later moved away. She asked if we could confirm her theory and find him. #biologicalfather #identity #illegitimacy

Using #DNA, we were indeed able to quickly prove that her theory was correct, although sadly her father had passed away a few years ago. However, he has two other children, who are client's half-siblings. #geneticgenealogy #identity #C331

Client #C330 has asked us to disentangle his wife's very confusing #familytree. Her parents were #Jewish immigrants to #Glasgow from #Sieradz in #Poland & both had the same surname. Various family members had provided info & photos but it was hard to make sense of it. #genealogy

Using client's information, plus our own research, we were able to establish that his wife's parents were uncle & niece!, but this wasn't the first time two members of the family had married each other. #intermarriage #genealogy #C330

Sadly, this man was murdered at #Auschwitz and, whilst we can't be 100% certain he was the right man, we have been able to tell our client about his family history and where they came from. This and the name is more than he hoped for and has given him the closure he needed #C329

Client #C329 commissioned us to identify his paternal grandfather. The problem was client's father was born in Berlin in 1922. #DNA revealed the target gentleman was of Polish-Jewish descent. We identified some distant cousin lines from the village of #Checiny. #illegitimacy

Despite this and the patchy Polish records available, we were able to identify a candidate grandfather (within the #YadVashem database) who matched the criteria of being from the #Kielce region of Poland, living in Berlin pre-war, with a matching family surname #C329
